We currently manage mission-critical AVD environments serving 1,000+ concurrent users across multiple academic medical institutions, with active deployments at leading dental schools. Our platform powers a seamless “continuity of thought” experience—clinicians badge in at any workstation and instantly resume their exact session, with patient records, clinical applications, and notes intact.

*The Role*
We’re hiring a Senior Azure AVD Architect/Engineer to lead the design and deployment of our next-generation virtual desktop platform. This isn’t a maintenance role—you’ll be architecting the core product that we license to institutions nationally. You’ll own the technical decisions that determine how our platform scales from thousands of users to tens of thousands, while meeting the compliance and performance demands of healthcare and higher education.
*What you’ll do*
* Architect and deploy scalable AVD environments (host pools, app groups, workspaces) across multiple institutions, each with distinct identity, compliance, and networking requirements.
* Design and implement HIPAA- and FERPA-compliant infrastructure from the ground up, including conditional access policies, network segmentation, and audit logging.
* Integrate AVD with Azure AD/Entra ID, Intune, Microsoft 365, and clinical applications including axiUm and other dental practice management systems.
* Automate infrastructure provisioning and configuration using PowerShell, Bicep, and/or Terraform, with CI/CD pipelines for repeatable multi-tenant deployments.
* Optimize FSLogix profile containers, session host performance, and ephemeral OS disk strategies to deliver sub-second login experiences at scale.
* Manage identity federation, conditional access, Defender for Cloud, and Sentinel integrations across client tenants.
* Evaluate and integrate emerging Azure capabilities (autoscale, Trusted Launch, confidential VMs, GPU-enabled hosts) into the production platform.
* Own ExpressRoute and hybrid networking design for institutions with on-premises dependencies.
* Provide expert-level troubleshooting for connectivity, profile corruption, and session reliability issues in production environments with zero tolerance for downtime.
* Maintain clean, auditable documentation and contribute to internal architectural standards that define how every future deployment is built.
*What you bring*
* 5+ years in cloud infrastructure engineering with 3+ years of direct AVD or comparable VDI experience (Citrix Virtual Apps & Desktops, VMware Horizon).
* Deep expertise in Azure core services: networking (VNETs, NSGs, ExpressRoute, Private Link), identity (Entra ID, conditional access, hybrid join), storage (Azure Files, NetApp Files), and compute (VM scaling, availability sets/zones).
* Proven scripting and automation skills in PowerShell; experience with Bicep, ARM templates, or Terraform.
* Production experience deploying FSLogix at scale and managing multi-session Windows hosts.
* Strong understanding of Azure security architecture, compliance frameworks (HIPAA, FERPA), and disaster recovery design.
* Ability to communicate complex infrastructure decisions clearly to both technical teams and institutional stakeholders who are not engineers.
* Calm, methodical troubleshooting instincts in high-pressure production environments.
*Strong preference for*
* Experience with IGEL OS or other thin/zero client endpoint platforms.
* Experience with Imprivata (tap-and-go proximity badge authentication).
* Microsoft certifications: Azure Solutions Architect Expert, AVD Specialty, or Azure Administrator Associate.
* Experience with Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions for infrastructure-as-code pipelines.
* Endpoint management expertise (Intune, Group Policy, hybrid join scenarios).
* Background in higher education or healthcare IT environments.
* Experience at a managed services provider (MSP) or fast-moving startup where you owned the full stack.
Compensation & Benefits
*Base salary: *$140,000 – $190,000, commensurate with experience.
*Equity: *Stock option grant with 4-year vesting schedule. You’ll have real ownership in a company that’s building a platform, not just delivering projects.
