IT Administrator -- Builder Wanted Mechanical Engineering | Southern California (On-Site) We are an established Southern California mechanical contractor in the construction industry with a serious, ongoing investment in technology modernization and AI. You will inherit a functional but outdated hybrid Windows environment. We have on-prem Windows Servers that host databases and services, alongside a large Microsoft 365 cloud footprint in OneDrive, Outlook, and SharePoint. We have devices in the office, in the field, and in our overseas offices. About the Role You will be responsible for our existing environment. You will also be expected to lead modernization efforts regarding building a more mature Microsoft 365 environment, modernizing on-prem hardware/software, and staying ahead of the technological curve. Coverage is primarily business hours, with availability by phone for production outages outside hours. We move fast. We expect the same of this role. Primary Responsibilities Manage and modernize our existing Microsoft 365 environment, to include deploying and administering Microsoft Entra ID and Microsoft Intune. Administer SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business: information architecture, permissions, sharing governance, retention, and storage management. Administer the broader Microsoft 365 tenant, including Exchange Online, Teams, and Microsoft Defender. Keep the existing on-premises environment running while the new cloud stack is being built — Windows Server, vSphere, SQL Server, and SonicWall — and plan its long-term role alongside the M365 buildout. Partner with the AI Lead on preparing our company for an AI-enabled future. Required Qualifications Highly interested in frontier AI models such as Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, etc., with experience using these models for software and systems engineering. Willing to work with our AI Lead to enhance workflows and operations across the company. You should be able to speak specifically about things you have built or improved with AI. Direct, hands-on experience deploying Microsoft Intune in a production environment, including Conditional Access, compliance policy design, and Windows Autopilot. Direct, hands-on experience deploying or substantially re-architecting Microsoft Entra ID. Production experience administering SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business at organizational scale. Strong PowerShell scripting, including the Microsoft Graph PowerShell SDK. Microsoft 365 tenant administration experience across core workloads. Demonstrated ability to harden a Microsoft 365 and Windows environment — Conditional Access, MFA enforcement, privileged access, endpoint compliance, and Defender policy — against real threats, not theoretical ones. Working knowledge of Windows Server, virtualization (vSphere preferred), and core networking. Demonstrated ability to plan and execute migrations affecting non-technical end users. Strongly Preferred Microsoft 365 Certified: Endpoint Administrator Associate, Identity and Access Administrator Associate, or equivalent demonstrable experience. Experience deploying endpoint management in environments with a significant field workforce. Familiarity with construction industry platforms (Sage 300 CRE, Procore, Laserfiche, Autodesk, Trimble). Ability to troubleshoot and fix printers, workstations, and various other devices used in the office. What We Offer $100,000 – $150,000 base salary, commensurate with experience. Health, 401(k); PTO.
