Piedmont Healthcare is seeking a compassionate and experienced Lead Respiratory Therapist for the night shift to support our Healthcare & Medical Services department within our non-profit, patient-centered healthcare system. As a key clinical leader, you will oversee and coordinate the delivery of high-quality respiratory care to adult and, where applicable, pediatric patients in a variety of acute care settings, including critical care, step-down units, emergency departments, and general medical-surgical floors. Working within Piedmont Healthcare’s culture of respect, innovation, teamwork, and inclusion, you will serve as a resource and role model for the respiratory therapy team, ensuring that evidence-based practices and regulatory standards are consistently followed throughout the night shift.
In this role, you will provide hands-on respiratory care, including assessment, treatment planning, implementation, and evaluation of therapies such as oxygen administration, aerosol and bronchodilator therapy, airway management, non-invasive and invasive mechanical ventilation, and pulmonary hygiene techniques. You will triage and prioritize therapy requests, respond promptly to respiratory emergencies and rapid response calls, assist with codes and airway management, and collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, and other interdisciplinary team members to optimize patient outcomes. You will review and interpret clinical data such as arterial blood gases, ventilator parameters, and diagnostic tests, making timely adjustments within established protocols and provider orders.
As the night-shift lead, you will be responsible for supervising and supporting respiratory therapists and technicians assigned to your shift, organizing staff assignments based on patient acuity and census, and ensuring appropriate coverage for all required areas. You will provide real-time clinical guidance, mentoring, and coaching to team members, fostering professional development and upholding Piedmont’s standards for compassionate, patient-centered care. You will assist with onboarding and training of new staff, reinforce adherence to policies and procedures, and promote a safe, respectful, and inclusive work environment where team members feel supported and empowered to speak up for patient safety.
You will also play a key role in quality improvement and operational efficiency during the night shift. Responsibilities include monitoring and documenting performance metrics related to respiratory care, ensuring accurate and timely charting in the electronic medical record, and participating in audits or initiatives related to infection prevention, ventilator-associated event reduction, and readmission prevention. You will help identify process gaps, suggest improvements, and collaborate with leadership and day-shift counterparts to standardize best practices across the respiratory therapy service. In addition, you may assist with equipment management, including troubleshooting ventilators and specialty respiratory devices, verifying equipment readiness, and coordinating with biomedical and supply teams to maintain adequate inventory and proper functioning of critical equipment.
The Lead Respiratory Therapist, Nights, will thrive in an environment that values collaboration and continuous learning. At Piedmont Healthcare, you will have access to ongoing training and development programs designed to help you maintain certifications, advance your clinical skills, and grow into broader leadership opportunities. You will work alongside interdisciplinary teams that prioritize open communication and shared decision-making, all with the goal of delivering compassionate, evidence-based care tailored to each patient’s needs. If you are an experienced respiratory therapist who enjoys night-shift work, takes pride in clinical excellence, and is inspired by the opportunity to mentor others and make a meaningful impact on patients and families, this role offers a rewarding path for both personal and professional advancement within a respected Georgia healthcare system.
