About Translation Commons Translation Commons is a nonprofit public charity dedicated to providing a reliable and scalable method for digitally rendering languages. Our mission is to bridge the digital divide by helping underrepresented languages become part of the global digital ecosystem. Since 2015, we have supported language communities through digitization initiatives, localization, education, and global collaboration. Overview We are looking for a creative and strategic Head of Design to lead the visual direction of Translation Commons. This role focuses on building a strong and consistent visual identity across all marketing and communication channels. The Head of Design will coordinate designers and collaborate closely with the Content, Traffic, and PR teams to ensure that all visuals clearly support TC’s mission, campaigns, and brand identity. Responsibilities Develop and maintain the visual identity and brandbook of Translation Commons. Ensure consistency of design across website, social media, newsletters, presentations, and campaigns. Lead and coordinate volunteer designers and creative contributors. Review and approve key visual materials before publishing. Support marketing campaigns with creative direction and visual concepts. Create and improve templates for social media, presentations, reports, and newsletters. Collaborate with Content and Traffic teams to improve engagement through visual communication. Help build scalable design workflows and asset libraries. Ideal Skills 3+ years of experience in graphic design, branding, or creative direction. Strong portfolio demonstrating digital and brand design work. Experience with tools such as Canva, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Figma, or similar software. Understanding of visual storytelling and social media design. Ability to lead creative projects and support volunteer contributors. Strong organizational and communication skills.
