The Provider Audit and Reimbursement Lead utilizes advanced knowledge of Medicare laws, regulations, instructions from CMS, and provider policies to perform desk reviews and audits of the annual Medicare cost reports, as well as interim rate review/reimbursement, and/or settlement acceptance/finalization for all provider types, including complex and organ transplant hospitals, as both a preparer and reviewer of work product based on established performance goals. The position will mentor and train Auditors and In-Charge Auditors and oversee daily workload of unit team. Responsibilities
Lead Accountabilities (60%) Coordinate with management by overseeing the unit's daily workload; use independent judgment to guide less experienced auditors; identify errors and communicate corrective actions; prioritize work to meet deadlines; develop work plans for less experienced auditors Analyze working papers and cost reports for errors Review workpapers for correctness and adherence to GAAP, GAAS, GAS; ensure compliance with CMS Uniform Desk Review (UDR) and policy; assemble working papers into a logical sequence Review, evaluate and approve the disbursement of tentative cost settlements in compliance with regulations Develop technical competence and foster growth in the team; provide coaching and training Coordinate assignments based on training needs; provide mentoring and training Manage and coordinate internal quality control with IQC; ensure policies and procedures meet auditing standards Facilitate development of Quality Management System (QMS) policies and procedures Auditor Accountabilities (40%) Perform audit functions including non-routine tasks; defend adjustments and workpapers with minimal supervision Coordinate large/diverse audits independently while seeking help for unusual items Use professional communication techniques in work and conclusions Maintain constructive provider relations; advise providers on Medicare policy questions Conduct entrance and exit conferences as needed Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in auditing, accounting, analytics, finance or related field Thorough understanding of the Medicare cost report and related CMS standards; typically 2.5–3 years of Medicare cost report auditing experience Experience in UDR, Medicare Bad Debts, DSH, IME/GME testing; ability to oversee scope and supervise staff Ability to prepare workpapers according to CMS standards; strong working knowledge of software applications; mentoring ability Demonstrated oral and written communication skills; ability to exercise independent judgment Attention to detail and reliability in meeting deadlines Preferred Qualifications
3 to 4 years of Medicare cost report auditing experience Experience reviewing NAHE and Organ Acquisition costs Job Details
