Position Overview As a Fire Investigator you will study fire and explosion scenes, determine the cause and origin of incidents, convey your findings through clear written reports, and, if necessary, provide expert testimony in court.
Responsibilities
Timely field visits to loss sites to conduct investigations.
Provide honest, unbiased analysis and consultation on various fires and explosions.
Carry out field studies and research on a daily basis.
Travel to perform investigations within a 100‑mile radius (and further when required) from the assigned office; occasional overnight travel may be required, depending upon workload and distance.
Interact closely with clients, often handling sensitive and confidential information.
Write and submit detailed, accurate reports on completed investigations in a timely manner in accordance with company guidelines.
Communicate with National Fire Experts’ customers to provide timelines and project updates consistently.
Provide expert testimony and/or depositions on an as‑needed basis.
Work a flexible schedule during periods of peak business demand.
Deliver excellent customer service to both internal and external customers.
Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Minimum Qualifications
Must have CFEI certification through NAFI, or CFI certification through IAAI (preferred).
Must hold or be able to obtain a Private Investigator License in the state(s) where assigned within 60 days of employment, if applicable.
Must be familiar with NFPA 921.
Must meet all requirements for qualification as a fire investigator per NFPA 1033.
Previous expert testimony or deposition experience highly preferred but not required.
Degree or some college coursework preferred but not required.
At least 2 years of hands‑on experience in public and/or private sectors performing fire origin and cause investigations on residential and commercial structures.
Well‑organized with the ability to deliver fast and accurate turnaround times.
Able to handle multiple projects and periods of high stress, especially during peak business demand.
Hands‑on; able to climb ladders and roofs, crawl in tight spaces, etc., as needed.
Will work on assigned projects unless sufficient hazards are identified following National Fire Experts’ Safety Protocol guidelines and JSA’s.
Meet all standards for pre‑employment physical examination.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Team‑oriented and service‑oriented.
Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record per firm guidelines.
Superior customer service skills.
Always conduct business honestly and ethically.
Experience writing detailed investigation reports highly preferred.
Excellent overall computer skills, meeting or exceeding aptitude standards for technical proficiency.
Works efficiently with little or no supervision.
Willing to travel and/or work a flexible schedule during periods of peak demand.
Willing to work remotely and from a home office, with reliable, high‑speed internet provided by the employee.
Physical Requirements
Stand for prolonged periods.
Lift or move objects up to 100 lbs.
Climb roofs, ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, etc.
Balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, and crawl as required.
Reach with hands and arms.
Operate a motor vehicle for extended periods.
Use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
