REPORTS TO: Operations Officer

WORK DAYS: 12 Months (240 Days) - SALARY: Classified Schedule 64 Level 1 ($90,812 - $119,384)

LOCATION: Central Office - FLSA Status - EXEMPTX - NON-EXEMPT

JOB DESCRIPTION: To direct the Child Nutrition Program so that each child is provided food of high nutritious quality in an atmosphere of cleanliness, cheerfulness and personal caring and so that the program is operated in an efficient, effective and economically sound basis.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise all personnel employed in the Child Nutrition Program (CNP).
  • Interview, screen, and recommend the appointment of all Child Nutrition Program personnel.
  • Administer personnel policies and evaluates all CNP staff.
  • Works toward the immediate establishment of centralized purchasing and menu development.
  • Prepare specifications and bid conditions for all items requiring such bids by law or Board Policy.
  • Make application for USDA commodities for CNP use and direct the distribution and transfer.
  • Standardize CNP accounting procedures in cooperation with the Finance Department.
  • Make applications for Federal subsidies.
  • Distribute all Federal Funds to various lunch and school milk programs.
  • Review and evaluate all requests and recommendations for purchase of new and replacement equipment.
  • Supervise the planning, preparation and serving of menus at all schools.
  • Provides assistance and suggestions for the utilization of USDA commodities in the preparation and serving of breakfast and lunch.
  • Inspect school lunch facilities and operations to ensure standards of cleanliness, health and safety are being maintained.
  • Assist principals and teachers in the instructional phases of the lunchroom programs and in the classroom instructional units of work pertaining to nutrition.
  • Keep patrons and the public informed of the menus and services offered by the school cafeterias and of the health and educational benefits gained by children through participation in the School Food Service Program.
  • Consult, as needed, with school planners and architects on plans and specifications for new or renovated food preparation centers.
  • Prepare and administers the departmental budget.
  • Maintain records involved with meal production and program operation on forms approved by the director and/or the state and federal school food authority.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and health regulations as established by federal, state, and local agencies.
  • Collaborate with the Operations Officer, Principal and Child Nutrition Programs Director in personnel matters.
  • Working knowledge of computer system or manual register at assigned school.
  • Ensure all child nutrition programs staff wears the selected uniform for the school.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to compile and analyze data, interpret the laws, policies, and regulations pertaining to the work.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Effective oral and written communication.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum Bachelor's Degree.
  • Experience in institutional food preparation, including one-year supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Experience in directing food service programs or evidence of training in this area.
  • Experience and knowledge in Technology.
  • Strong operation management, personnel, supervision, financial forecasting and budgeting experience.
  • Possess a Serv-Safe Certification according to the requirements set forth by the Jefferson County Health Department.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's Degree preferred.
