This is a limited‑term employment position for 12 months with the possibility of extension and can be full‑time or part‑time with a minimum of 18 hours per week. The position can be located anywhere in Wisconsin, but the holder must be able to travel regularly to Tribal lands across the state and to Milwaukee.
Who We Are Wisconsin Native Vote is a program of Wisconsin Conservation Voices and has helped significantly increase voter turnout in Tribal communities across the state since 2011. Wisconsin Conservation Voices centers community voices to build a clean environment, healthy communities, and a thriving democracy. Wisconsin Native Vote is a nonpartisan program dedicated to improving voting access for Native people in Wisconsin. Based in the community, working with Native people and Tribal nations, we educate voters, register people to vote, and improve voting policies.
What You’ll Do
Content creation: develop and produce original multimedia content—including memes, short‑form videos, and posts—to educate and engage followers.
Build an online audience and engage community members: foster an interactive online community by responding to comments and messages promptly, moderating discussions to maintain a positive environment, encouraging user‑generated content and amplifying voices from within the community, and increasing the volunteer base through online engagement.
Social media management: manage our presence across major platforms (Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, threads/Bluesky, etc.), tailoring content and messaging to each platform’s audience and best practices, consistently posting, monitoring, and engaging with the community.
Culturally relevant storytelling: ensure all content is culturally respectful and relevant, highlight Indigenous perspectives, traditional ecological knowledge, community events, Native popular culture, and success stories in climate, voting rights, and public health advocacy. Work closely with Tribal community members and leaders when crafting stories to honor cultural values and protocols.
Campaign support: collaborate with communications and advocacy teams to support opioid, voting rights, climate, and/or water campaigns. Translate campaign goals into digital content (e.g., educational threads, calls‑to‑action, event promotions) and coordinate with colleagues to maintain consistent, impactful messaging across all channels.
Analytics and improvement: track social media metrics and content performance using analytics tools, provide regular insights on engagement, reach, and follower growth, and use data to refine strategy over time. Experiment with new content formats or trends (e.g., livestreams, Instagram takeovers) and research algorithms and best practices to reach the right audiences.
Editorial calendar: assist in developing and maintaining a social media content calendar aligned with seasonal events, campaign timelines, and relevant cultural dates (e.g., Indigenous Peoples’ Day, Earth Day).
Who You Are To be successful in this role you will be creative, have experience building and engaging online audiences, managing social media accounts, and exhibit cultural awareness and sensitivity to Native values.
Required Qualifications
One to three years of experience in social media content creation, digital marketing, communications, or a related field. Evidence of building an online audience is required.
Proven ability to create compelling content on major social media platforms (TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, Threads/Bluesky, YouTube). Familiarity with each platform’s features and best practices for engagement is required.
Excellent writing, storytelling, and content creation skills, with the ability to adapt tone and style for different audiences.
Basic graphic design abilities and video editing skills—comfortable creating simple videos and visuals. Experience with tools like Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or mobile video editing apps is beneficial.
Deep cultural awareness and sensitivity to Native American values, histories, and traditions. Ability to communicate respectfully and culturally appropriately is essential. Familiarity with Wisconsin Tribal communities is required.
Trusted relationships with Wisconsin’s Tribes and Native communities.
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines efficiently, detail‑oriented in scheduling posts, proofreading content, and following approval processes. Capable of working independently in a remote environment while collaborating with a diverse team.
Comfortable with remote‑work technology and digital collaboration tools. Reliable internet access and ability to attend online meetings and work weekends or evenings when needed.
Experience developing questions and conducting interviews with people from diverse backgrounds.
Demonstrated ability to create compelling social media videos and posts that appeal to people’s hearts, minds, humor, and culture. Understanding of what messages will appeal to audiences and the ability to break down complex ideas into simple language and visuals.
Preferred Qualifications
Comfortable being on camera
Analytics monitoring to track performance
Advocacy or nonprofit background
What You Should Know Racial justice and equity competencies: demonstrated awareness of how one’s life experiences influence biases and assumptions, commitment to continual learning, and commitment to equity and inclusion as an organizational practice. Understand how environmental and voting rights issues intersect with racism and inequality in the U.S. and have a passion for dismantling these systems. Read more about our commitment in our Guiding Principleshere.
Conditions Able to maintain a flexible schedule (some evenings and weekend hours). Able to perform routine office duties such as typing and phone use. Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license. Travel to Tribal lands across the state and to Milwaukee at least twice per month.
Status Full‑time (36 hours per week) or part‑time (minimum 18 hours per week). 12‑month position with possibility of extension.
