Continuously assess and reassess patient conditions, providing rescue interventions as per established protocols when direct Medical Control is unavailable. Apply critical thinking to evaluate patient needs and plan appropriate care. Delegate patient care tasks to EMTs and First Responders within their scope and evaluate their performance. Demonstrate proficiency in cardiac monitoring (4-lead and 12-lead), arrhythmia interpretation, transcutaneous pacing, defibrillation, capnography, endotracheal intubation, King airway insertion, LMA, needle decompression, C-PAP, VAD, IV and intraosseous insertion, drug calculations, medication administration, and rapid sequence intubation (RSI). Coordinate patient care effectively with healthcare team members and emergency service providers. Provide concise and pertinent handoff reports to receiving medical staff. Efficiently assess trauma scenes and activate trauma teams as needed. Adhere to infection control procedures and safe patient handling techniques, ensuring team compliance. Document patient care accurately and thoroughly. Maintain clear communication with other departments and emergency services.
Education High school diploma or equivalent required. Graduation from a state-approved EMT-Paramedic course is mandatory. Experience At least one year of EMT-Paramedic experience is preferred. Certifications and Licenses Current state EMT-Paramedic license required. Certifications in BLS, ACLS, PHTLS, and PALS are mandatory. PHTLS certification and a Class E driver's license must be obtained within six months of hire. Mental and Physical Requirements This position demands considerable mental focus and physical stamina, including lifting up to 50 pounds, frequent walking, standing, sitting, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching. Extended driving and managing stressful, traumatic situations are also part of the role. Working Conditions Frequent exposure to infectious diseases and potentially hostile individuals may occur. The role involves contact with blood and other bodily fluids, requiring strict adherence to safety protocols. Physical discomfort is minimal but present.
