Background We are rapidly expanding in the Denver, Colorado area! Ramon.Space is making the final frontier possible by accelerating the future of space computing by bringing resilient, Earth-like digital infrastructure to orbit. Our cutting-edge, software-defined technology equips satellites with advanced storage, processing, and connectivity capabilities - powering smart, efficient, and fully adaptable missions across communications, 5G NTN, earth observation, and space-based data centers. As we scale our U.S. presence, we're deepening our work with both commercial operators and U.S. government partners who are driving the next generation of space innovation. From mission-critical national security applications to high-growth commercial constellations, our proven computing platforms deliver the performance, reliability, and flexibility needed to unlock new capability in orbit. Selected by the world's leading satellite operators, Ramon.Space is defining how the industry builds, deploys, and evolves digital missions in space. We are a global team of 100+ employees across the US, United Kingdom, and Israel. If you are looking to make an impact, come and join our team. We are looking for a seasoned embedded software engineer to lead the design and delivery of flight‑grade embedded software for Ramon.Space computing modules. This role combines hands‑on firmware development, system architecture, and mentorship to drive high‑reliability software for satellite platforms.
What you will be doing Lead architecture and design of embedded software for digital modules including boot, device drivers, RTOS integration, and hardware abstraction layers. Provide hands‑on mentorship, run regular one‑on‑ones, set clear development goals, and drive career progression through coaching and constructive feedback. Lead recruiting and hiring for software roles; define role profiles, participate in interviews, and build a balanced team of firmware, embedded Linux/SoC, and test engineers. Own system requirements and interfaces across hardware, firmware, and higher‑level software to ensure end‑to‑end correctness and performance. Develop and maintain firmware in C and C++ for microcontrollers, SoCs, and FPGA soft‑processors. Define and enforce software architecture patterns including modularity, fault containment, redundancy, and safe state transitions. Drive verification and validation strategies including unit tests, integration tests, hardware‑in‑the‑loop, and CI pipelines. Collaborate with electrical, FPGA, and systems engineers to co‑design interfaces, timing, and power management. Mentor and grow the embedded team by conducting design reviews, code reviews, and technical onboarding. Represent the software team in cross‑functional planning, customer technical reviews, and supplier engagements. Contribute to safety, security, and compliance activities relevant to space and defense customers.
Requirements Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience. 7+ years of professional embedded software experience with at least 3 years in a lead or senior role. Proven architecture experience designing embedded systems for constrained, safety‑critical, or high‑reliability platforms. Strong C and C++ skills and experience with RTOSes such as FreeRTOS, VxWorks, or similar. Experience building, debugging, and maintaining embedded Linux systems; creating and maintaining Yocto recipes, layers, BSPs, and reproducible images for embedded targets. Experience with hardware interfaces including SPI, I2C, UART, PCIe, Ethernet, and high‑speed serial links. Experience with firmware bring‑up, bootloaders, and BSP development. Familiarity with CI/CD for embedded systems, automated testing, and version control workflows. Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to lead cross‑disciplinary teams.
Advantages Experience in aerospace or satellite systems including flight heritage, radiation mitigation, or DO‑254 familiarity. Experience with FPGA firmware or embedded Linux and SoC integration. Knowledge of secure boot, cryptographic modules, and secure firmware update mechanisms. Experience with model‑based design, formal verification, or static analysis tools. Master's degree in a relevant field.
Benefits Competitive salary and benefits package. Benefits at Ramon.Space include medical, dental, vision, PTO, holidays, FSAs, 401(k) match, short term and long-term disability, and parental leave. Flexible hybrid working model with opportunities for remote work. The office is located in the Denver Tech Center. Collaborative and innovative work environment. Opportunities for professional growth and development. Be part of a pioneering team in the satellite communication industry.
Due to export regulations, U.S. citizenship or U.S. person status may be required. The salary range for this position is $150,000 - $200,000. Ramon.Space will consider relevant work experience, skills, education, and training when putting together an offer for this position.
