Lead, Applications Engineer – Silicon Carbide Materials Our site in Decatur is seeking a Lead, Applications Engineer, Silicon Carbide Materials to join our team. In this role the successful candidate will be responsible for the development, validation, and introduction of graphite and silicon carbide materials into the field of wide bandgap transistor processing. This will include the introduction of our materials starting with the crystal pulling process and the epitaxial growth process. Key Responsibilities Work with potential customers to understand their specific needs, failure modes, and requirements. Work with internal R&D teams on materials development and synthesis. Characterize different material grades in application environments. Collaborate with internal FEA modeling team to examine scenarios with different material combinations. Manage development schedules and timelines. Develop vendor and partner relationships to incorporate outside technologies into our materials portfolio. Develop scale‑up plans upon completion of successful validation. Qualifications Master’s degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or Chemical Engineering with at least 3 years of experience; or Bachelor’s degree in the same fields with at least 5 years of experience; or 10+ years of experience in SiC wafer manufacturing, LED manufacturing, or wide bandgap semiconductor processing. 3+ years of experience in Project Management. Ability for occasional global travel. Desired Experience & Capabilities Strong materials understanding and wide bandgap semiconductor processing knowledge. Experience with SiC crystal growth (PVT) or Si crystal pulling. Experience with DOE methodologies/tools. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Experience in FEA modeling. Excellent communication, strong organizational, interpersonal, problem‑solving, and analytical skills. Experience leading a development effort using stage‑gated tracking software. Ability to work on projects cross‑functionally. Ability to research, identify, and gain access to decision makers, and gain insight through targeted questioning and active listening. Experience working in an ISO 9000/14000 environment (a plus). Capacity to comply with federal export control laws. Benefits Generous 401(k) plan with employer match.
