As Division Chair, the role encompasses comprehensive supervision and evaluation of staff, including regular classroom visits and coaching sessions to enhance instructional strategies. This is a nine-month stipend position. Pending the review of school needs and the evaluation process, the term may be extended annually.

Staff Supervision and Evaluation

1. Visits classrooms regularly to monitor instruction and implementation of the District-approved curriculum.
2. Evaluate teaching staff using a District-approved evaluation plan.
3. Makes recommendations to the principal on hiring, retaining, or releasing department members.
4. Encourages teachers to self-evaluate using coaching, action research, video recording, or other methods that promote reflection.
5. Confers and coaches teachers in the division to help them improve instructional strategies.
6. Approves requests for professional development and coursework in a manner that promotes improvement.
7. Encourages teamwork, collaboration, and problem-solving.
8. Assists substitute teachers.
9. Assigns and assists student teachers.
10. Prepares and manages the division budget.

Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment

1. Provides leadership in developing and reviewing the division curriculum in conjunction with the district curriculum leads.
2. Ensures that teachers in the department teach district-approved curriculum.
3. Leads the textbook/instructional materials selection process.
4. Demonstrate and develop quality instructional methods, strategies, and pedagogy in division classrooms.
5. Utilizes the District Instructional Framework.
6. Provides leadership and supports the PLC process in departments.
7. Supports and develops opportunities for rigorous coursework i.e., AP, Honors, Dual Credit.
8. Understands and promotes quality assessment practices.
9. Collaborates with district team leaders to align the curriculum vertically.
10. Ensures that the district curriculum in their division prepares students for postsecondary endeavors.
11. Ensures that teachers utilize available technology to enhance the curriculum, instruction, and assessment.

Student Growth and Development

1. Collaborates with division teachers and student services personnel to ensure appropriate interventions are in place to support student progress and success.
2. Leads the process of using student achievement data to establish goals and targets for improvement.
3. Requires that curricular and instructional decisions be based on student needs as defined by data and students' postsecondary plans.
4. Supports the implementation and use of AVID strategies

Professional Development

1. Leads division toward continuous improvement by expanding content and pedagogy.
2. Supports and encourages teachers toward professional growth and improvement.
3. Attends and actively participates in monthly Professional Development as scheduled for Team Leads.
4. Attends and facilitates weekly collaborative team meetings within the buildings.
5. Serves as a member of the Building Leadership Team.

The physical demands of this position include frequent sitting and standing for extended periods of time. Depending on the class/student assignment, the employee may occasionally lift, push, pull, and/or move up to 50 pounds. Repetitive bending at the waist, kneeling, stooping, and crouching to assist students are also required. Employees may reach overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally.
