What you’ll do Help animals in need! We see over 100,000 animals each year. Our veterinarians work with licensed technicians and assistants to provide essential services to pets and rescue animals that need us the most. There is minimal paperwork, no on‑call or overnight shifts, and no after‑hours emergencies, so you can focus on patients and have a life outside work. The ASPCA supports you professionally through mentorship and training in high‑quality, high‑volume spay/neuter procedures.
What you’ll get Compensation:
The target hiring range is $148,000 - $156,000. Salary may increase beyond the maximum hiring range based on performance over time.

Work Schedule and Location This is typically a Monday‑Friday, 8‑hour schedule with occasional flexibility beyond the scheduled workday. This is an on‑site position at the mobile spay/neuter clinics and requires occasional flexibility in reporting location.
Responsibilities Medical
Provide compassionate, quality preventive and basic care to patients, including physical examination, diagnostics, treatment recommendations and delivery, prescribing medications and discharge information.
Perform pre‑surgery physical examinations on all surgical candidates.
Perform 25‑30 high quality, high volume spay/neuter procedures per clinic day at our stationary clinic or mobile clinics (training provided).
Diagnose and treat post‑surgical medical complications.
Perform and oversee all aspects of minor outpatient surgical procedures.
Provide a safe and compassionate environment using low‑stress handling techniques.
Triage and refer cases that do not fall within CM’s parameters of care as appropriate.
Perform humane euthanasia in accordance with ASPCA policy and CM protocols.
Client Service
Communicate with clients in a non‑judgemental, effective, professional manner; discuss examination and test results to enable informed decisions.
Counsel owners about end‑of‑life and other sensitive concerns.
Provide discharge instructions and oversee dispensing of medications.
Administrative/Teamwork
Document exam findings, test results and treatment recommendations per ASPCA guidelines.
Collaborate and foster communication with ASPCA colleagues.
Participate in veterinary/medical training for staff and students by coaching and demonstration.
Assist in determining the needed scope of services and provide input into medical protocols.
Support research and development to benefit animals nationwide by participating in studies.
Participate in monthly virtual medical rounds, workshops or staff meetings as requested.
For those willing/interested in travel, opportunity to deploy with the ASPCA National Field & Disaster Response team.
Qualifications
New York State veterinary license – new graduates welcome.
Fear Free® Shelter certification required within 60 days of hire.
Knowledge of and ability to use low‑stress handling techniques.
Ability to efficiently perform physical examinations, outpatient surgical procedures, and diagnose and treat cats and dogs.
Sound clinical judgement and resiliency.
Displays care for safety and well‑being of self, animals and others, especially in stressful situations.
Able to work standing for 8 or more hours and to bend, crouch, kneel and move freely, including handling potentially aggressive animals and navigating stairs and small working spaces of mobile clinics.
Ability and willingness to commute to various locations to support stationary and mobile clinics throughout the New York area.
Ability to exemplify ASPCA’s core values and behavioral competencies.
Education and Work Experience
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree (or equivalent). New graduates are encouraged; structured mentorship provided.
Experience in high‑quality, high‑volume spay/neuter preferred.
Experience in general small animal practice or shelter medicine preferred.
Language
English (Required).
Bilingual Spanish strongly preferred.
