Contact information Description Sierra7, Inc. is seeking a Senior Systems Administrator to support the operation, security, and modernization of a complex federal technology environment. This position maintains server, identity, endpoint, virtualization, collaboration, and cloud services across on‑premises and hosted platforms. The role also resolves advanced technical issues, improves automation and monitoring, addresses security weaknesses, and contributes to initiatives involving cloud identity, modern device management, analytics, and artificial intelligence‑enabled services.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time, excluding federal holidays and Government closures. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required for emergencies, maintenance, incidents, or other mission‑critical needs.
Position Responsibilities
Administer and optimize physical, virtual, and cloud‑hosted server environments.
Configure, maintain, and upgrade Windows Server and Linux‑based operating systems, including system upgrades, configuration, and maintenance.
Manage enterprise identity and directory services, including Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, and hybrid identity environments.
Implement and maintain identity synchronization, multifactor authentication, single sign‑on, Conditional Access, and related authentication services.
Administer and optimize endpoint‑management and configuration platforms such as Microsoft Intune and Microsoft Configuration Manager.
Manage Microsoft 365 services and other enterprise collaboration platforms.
Administer and maintain virtualization technologies such as Nutanix, VMware, or Hyper‑V.
Monitor system performance, event logs, infrastructure health, and service availability using enterprise monitoring tools.
Investigate and resolve complex production issues involving servers, endpoints, identities, applications, and cloud services.
Plan and execute operating‑system patching, security hardening, vulnerability remediation, and configuration-baseline maintenance.
Design and develop PowerShell scripts and other automation to reduce repetitive administrative work and improve service consistency.
Assess, consolidate, and rationalize Group Policy configurations and support the transition of endpoint policies to modern management platforms.
Develop and maintain operating procedures, system documentation, configuration records, and troubleshooting guides.
Coordinate the remediation of security findings and corrective actions through established remediation and risk‑management processes.
Collaborate with network, cybersecurity, service desk, application, and cloud teams to resolve cross‑functional issues.
Evaluate and implement appropriate analytics and AI‑enabled tools to improve IT operations and user support.
Conduct daily system‑health reviews, incident response, change management, and planned maintenance activities.
Advise users, administrators, and other IT personnel on complex technical issues and recommended solutions.
Perform work onsite at least three days per work week, with additional onsite attendance based on operational needs.
Support occasional evening or weekend work for incidents, maintenance, upgrades, or other mission‑critical needs.
Requirements
Demonstrated experience managing Microsoft Entra ID and hybrid identity architectures.
Experience administering Microsoft Intune and modern endpoint‑management services.
Strong working knowledge of Conditional Access, multifactor authentication, single sign‑on, SAML, OAuth, and OpenID Connect.
Extensive experience with Entra Connect, Azure AD Connect, Cloud Sync, or comparable identity‑synchronization technologies.
Strong PowerShell scripting and automation skills.
Experience reviewing, consolidating, and migrating Group Policy configurations.
Extensive experience managing Windows Server patching, upgrades, and vulnerability remediation.
Working knowledge with Linux administration, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux or CentOS.
Experience with at least one major virtualization platform, such as Nutanix, VMware, or Hyper‑V.
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Azure infrastructure and cloud services.
Demonstrated experience administering Microsoft 365 services and applications.
Knowledge of security configuration standards and control frameworks, including CIS or NIST guidance.
Strong understanding of Kerberos, NTLM, SAML, OAuth, and OpenID Connect authentication methods.
Experience using monitoring, logging, and systems‑management tools to identify and resolve service issues.
Ability to troubleshoot complex technical problems across identity, server, endpoint, virtualization, and cloud environments.
Strong documentation, communication, incident‑management, and change‑management skills.
Ability to work onsite in Reston, Virginia, at least three days per workweek.
Ability to complete and maintain all required federal security, identity, facility‑access, and system‑access requirements.
Education & Experience
Minimum of 8 years of experience in System Administration involving Windows Server, Active Directory, endpoint management, and enterprise virtualization.
Bachelor's Degree in computer science or related field.
Preferred Qualifications
Nutanix Certified Professional certification.
Microsoft SC-300: Identity and Access Administrator Associate.
Microsoft MS-102: Microsoft 365 Administrator.
Experience supporting federated or distributed cloud environments.
Experience using Power BI to create operational dashboards, reports, or service insights.
Experience with ServiceNow administration, workflows, automation, or AI‑enabled capabilities.
Familiarity with Microsoft Copilot and other enterprise generative AI tools.
Experience applying machine learning, natural language processing, or AI‑assisted automation to IT operations.
Experience integrating AI‑enabled tools with existing service‑management, identity, endpoint, or collaboration platforms.
Knowledge of governance, privacy, security, and risk controls associated with enterprise AI adoption.
Experience supporting federal, public‑sector, public‑safety, or other highly regulated environments.
Demonstrated success improving service availability, reducing incidents, increasing patch compliance, or decreasing manual administrative effort.
