Position Summary Project SEARCH serves young people with significant intellectual and developmental disabilities. Typically these are high school students who are on an Individual Education Program (IEP) and in their last year of high school eligibility. Students defer graduation and complete their last year of school at the host business, in this case Cleveland Clinic Tradition Hospital. Student Interns participate in classroom employability training as well as three internships at the hospital to build their social, communication and employability skills.
The Project SEARCH Coordinator position provides training and job placement to transition‑aged youth with disabilities to develop employability skills, acquire and maintain employment in an inter‑agency collaborative environment. The Coordinator is the liaison between Vocational Rehabilitation, Cleveland Clinic Management, St. Lucie School District, families, the Business Advisory Committee, and the Student Parent Alumni Group. Communication and dissemination of information to all stakeholders are essential to ensure successful outcomes for the student participants.
Project SEARCH is a collaboration between the school district, Cleveland Clinic at Tradition and employU. The Coordinator works with employU’s onsite team to ensure the students have the support they need to gain valuable skills to move them closer to employment upon graduation.
Essential Functions
Review potential Project Search candidates with the committee and conduct interviews using the agreed‑upon rubric.
Assist with coordination of hospital tours for incoming interns, parents, and teachers to highlight the program.
Organize annual student/parent orientation and graduation sessions with all stakeholders.
Prepare and conduct employment planning meetings with each intern, parent, supervisor, and Project Search Team.
Lead the Project Search assessments at the beginning of each cohort and submit them for billing in the CRM.
Ensure all client referrals are in place in regard to vocational assessments, OJT rotations, and placement upon completion of the Project SEARCH year.
Assess student skills to create an accurate skills profile and match interns to internships.
Work with business liaison, department manager/mentors, instructors, and other skills trainers to develop internship sites, write job descriptions, task lists, job analysis and plan for necessary modifications.
Work with manager/mentors and coworkers to educate on disability awareness and training techniques to reinforce employability skills and assist interns to understand and interpret work culture.
Assist in training interns in the interview process unique to each host business.
Ensure all Project Search billing is submitted in a timely fashion and liaise with Vocational Rehabilitation for approvals.
Make modifications to internship duties (e.g., label cabinets, simplify written instructions) necessary for successful completion.
Attend job orientation with the intern and clarify information with the intern as necessary.
Teach essential tasks/duties/core skills of the job to the intern; provide individual support for each intern and job task needs during the job development phase.
Create vocational profiles and individual career plans using Discovery methods.
Develop employment opportunities using customized, supported, or direct placement approaches.
Actively meet deadlines, take notes, and write detailed reports.
Assist individuals with résumé development, employment applications, interviewing, orientation, and training.
Communicate with family members and other providers to assist individuals in successfully gaining employment.
Develop relationships with community employers, complete situational interviews, offer consultation services to meet employer needs.
Develop natural supports in the workplace and community for individuals with disabilities.
Drive clients to various locations as needed.

Education BA Degree in Behavioral or Social Science, Human Services, Business Administration, Psychology, Sociology and one year of experience in job placement, job coaching, job training, job counseling or other vocational rehabilitation program working with persons with disabilities.
Experience Individuals without a BA Degree, but with four years of experience in job placement, job coaching, job training or public vocational rehabilitation program working with persons with disabilities will be considered.
Computer Skills Proficient with Microsoft Suite, Adobe and web-based database systems; CRM experience preferred.
Other Requirements
Position typically works 8:00 a.m.—4:00 p.m., M‑F, with occasional weekend work.
Ability to pass a Level 2 background check.
Must have reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, auto registration, auto insurance minimum coverage of bodily injury $50,000 per person/$100,000 per accident.
Ideal candidates will have experience and knowledge of the business community as well as provide support to individuals with disabilities.
Must be creative, passionate and successful in job placement.
Participate in professional development in systematic instruction, learning work skills, training techniques and strategies and other appropriate training.
Must have own computer, printer, smartphone with data plan, and high-speed internet connection.
SUPERVISION Supervises Lead Skills Instructor Project Search position.
TRAVEL Local travel required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT Classroom setting in various hospital departments.
Standing, walking, reaching and prolonged periods sitting while driving and working on a computer. Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds as needed.
Vision: see in normal visual range with or without correction; sufficient to read computer screens and printed documents.
Hearing: hear within normal audio range with or without correction.
