Current ARRT registration. Must maintain continuing education requirements. Employment Variables: The RT works in a clean, well-lighted and ventilated area. Work hours include rotating shifts, weekends and holidays. The Staff technologist may be exposed to communicable diseases, combative patients and radiation. Technologist will take share of call. Initial Tuberculosis (TB) test and drug screening is required by Winner Regional Health. Rubella titer will also be drawn upon hire and immunization is required if no past exposure or indication of immunization. Required to wear name tag provided by WRH and to follow the dress code of WRH.
Job Knowledge and Skills: Ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to deal with people in a professional manner. General knowledge of anatomy, an understanding of the principles of physics, electricity and methods of exposure to obtain clearly defined films. Knowledge of CT, mammography, EKG's and general radiology. Must be able to operate all equipment in the department. Explains procedures as needed and follows department policy of obtaining exam consents. Computed Tomography Examinations Exhibits thorough knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and terminology. Evaluates pertinent patient symptoms and applies it to the canning procedure. Understands the administration and use of intravenous contrast. Understand and follows standard protocols designed by radiologist. Interacts with the patient's physician or supervising radiologist to produce an optimal and deficient study. On a continuum, is cognizant of updates and new procedures in the field of CT. Demonstrates the ability to correctly position patient. Always checks the patient's chart/request to confirm the orders. Enters correct and accurate information in computer. Charts pertinent data on patient flow sheets. Performs daily quality control and follows guidelines for proper set-up/warm up of equipment. Operates department computer for exam scheduling, requisition entry, account billing, film tracking and procedure inquiry information. Orders supplies to specified areas as needed (PFC or OR). Helps at the Reception desk and in the Image Room as needed. Quality Control
Performs daily maintenance as required. Understands and follows standard protocols designed by radiologists. Follows guidelines set up for each piece of equipment for QC warm-up and corrective actions. On a continuum, is cognizant of updates and new procedures in the field of diagnostic radiology. Attends QC in-services. Communication Politely and professionally answers phone calls. Properly schedules procedures with hospital departments and physician offices. Assess the daily schedule and adjusts for emergencies. Communicates accurately with physicians and hospital staff to give optimal care. Efficiently answers pager messages and adapts daily responsibilities accordingly. Consistently communicates with proper personnel on future exams.
Patient Interactions
Checks name band to correlate with procedure order. Provides directions and/or assistance to patients and their family members as needed. Demonstrates sensitivity to the patient and respects their emotional and physical state. Protects patient privacy during procedure and in any follow-up which is required. Adjusts performance of procedures in accordance with patient condition as necessary. Attentively responds to altered patient condition preceding, during and following exams performed.
