Über

Overview Senior Software Engineer for the Developer Productivity (DevProd) team at IBM Software, focused on building internal platform services and tools that improve developer experience across Confluent products such as Kafka, Flink, and Connect. The role involves designing, implementing, and operating cloud services that enable Confluent engineers to build, test, and operate at scale.
Responsibilities
Design, build, and operate internal platform services and tools to improve developer experience and engineering velocity.
Contribute to features and projects, working with engineers and stakeholders to shape solutions, implement them, and support production and pre‑prod environments.
Apply knowledge of cloud‑native, distributed systems to write quality code, review peers’ work, and take ownership of components.
Evaluate AI‑assisted developer workflows, run experiments, and integrate useful tools with guardrails (coding assistants, test caching, workflow optimization).
Build and maintain foundational developer infrastructure: source-code repository management, build automation, artifact management, containerization, CI/CD pipelines.
Implement features for secure, multi‑tenant services that accelerate the SDLC (service bootstrapping, test infrastructure, developer portals).
Participate in design and code reviews, contribute design docs, and incorporate feedback.
Support on‑call rotation, follow runbooks for production operations, write clear documentation, and collaborate to unblock cross‑team efforts.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science or related field; Master’s preferred.
3+ years of professional software engineering experience building cloud services, platforms, or distributed systems.
Solid grasp of algorithms, data structures, and distributed systems fundamentals.
Proficiency in at least one statically‑typed language (Java, Go) and a scripting language (Python).
Hands‑on experience with CI/CD systems (Jenkins, GitHub Actions), containers, and at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
Experience with source control (Git) and build frameworks (Maven, Gradle, Bazel).
Write code with appropriate testing, logging, and error handling; comfortable running production operations and on‑call duties.
Clear written and verbal communication; constructive participation in design discussions and PR reviews.
Interest in integrating AI/ML or LLM‑based capabilities into developer or platform workflows; prior AI experience not required.
Preferred Technical Experience
Hands‑on experience building or integrating AI‑powered developer tools (code assistants, anomaly detection, intelligent test selection).
Experience with configuration management and IaC tools, and secrets management (Ansible, Puppet, Terraform, Vault).
Working knowledge of databases, caching, and messaging systems (MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, Kafka).
