Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

As a Certified Nursing Assistant in Long Term Care, you play a crucial role in providing direct resident care and ensuring their well-being. Your duties are integral to the delivery of quality healthcare services in the long-term care setting.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Performance Standards: Follow established performance standards and adhere to nursing service policies and procedures.
  2. Direct Resident Care: Provide direct resident care, including bathing, grooming, and toileting.
  3. Bathing and Hygiene: Administer tub baths, showers, or bed baths to assigned residents.
  4. Repositioning: Turn and reposition all residents as per their individual care plans and maintain their range of motion.
  5. Vital Signs: Obtain vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, and pulse, under the direction of the licensed nurse.
  6. Assistance with Dining: Transport residents to the dining area and assist with feeding as necessary.
  7. Transfer and Body Mechanics: Use proper body mechanics when transferring and transporting residents. Utilize transfer belts and mechanical lifts as indicated on the resident's care plan.
  8. Room Maintenance: Maintain the cleanliness of residents' rooms, tables, and nightstands. Change bed linens as needed and on designated bath days.
  9. Resident Rounds: Conduct resident rounds as indicated in the resident's care plan, before each shift change, and as needed.
  10. Call Lights and Alarms: Respond promptly to all call lights and porch egress alarms on the assigned nursing unit.
  11. Care Planning: Participate in the care planning process and perform nurse-assisted duties as documented in the resident's care plan.
  12. Communication: Report resident problems, condition changes, or incidents to the Charge Nurse.
  13. Incident Documentation: Document incidents and unusual problems in accordance with facility procedures.
  14. Resident Dignity: Maintain resident confidentiality, treat residents with kindness, dignity, and respect, and comply with all Resident's Rights rules. Promptly report all resident accidents and injuries to the charge nurse.
  15. Electronic Charting: Document care and treatment provided to residents, as well as their responses, in the nursing assistant electronic charting system.
  16. Infection Control and Safety: Observe and follow infection control and safety policies and procedures.
  17. Training: Attend and complete scheduled in-service training, Relias courses, classes, and ward conferences as required.
  18. Certification: Maintain all certification requirements for the state of Michigan and ensure your CNA license is current.
  19. Availability: Be available for additional hours of work beyond your regularly scheduled shift.
  20. Punctuality: Maintain regular and timely attendance.
Additional Facility Information:
  • No block schedule guaranteed.
  • Every other weekend is required.
  • The facility is located across from the Humane Society, and there may be occasional visits from canine support animals. Clinicians who are afraid of dogs may not be the best fit.
Submission Requirements:
  • Experience: 2+ years of experience is required.
  • Travel Experience: Strongly encouraged.
  • BLS (AHA or ARC): Strongly encouraged.
  • MI CNA License: Required.
  • COVID Vaccine: Strongly encouraged. If declining, it is mandated to wear a mask.
  • Physical Requirements: Must be able to move up to 25 lbs and frequently lift and/or move more than 50 lbs.
Scheduling:
  • Every other weekend, along with 2 shifts during the week to make 36 hours per week. Blocked scheduling is NOT guaranteed.
  • The client operates on a Sunday-Saturday schedule, so scheduling on Sunday or Saturday, in addition to two days during the week, equates to 36 hours per week.
Meal/Lunch Break:
  • A 30-minute lunch break is allowed per day unless otherwise approved by a Leader.
Timesheets:
  • The clinician fills out the agency timesheet with hours worked and submits an UNSIGNED timesheet to the agency contact for uploading to TRIO for billing/client review to determine approval/declination status.
Agency Requirements:
  • The agency must have a mandated State of Michigan ICHAT account set up before submission, as this process may take more than 3 weeks to be completed.
