Safety Consultant/Safety Consultant Senior As a Safety Consultant Senior/Safety Consultant at APS, you will be instrumental in driving safety excellence across the organization. What You'll Be Doing Safety Guidance and Strategy
Counsel and inform management, staff, employees, and contractors regarding safety concerns, violations, and non-compliance risks. Recommend solutions that leverage technical expertise to develop innovative and cost-effective safety strategies.
Regulatory Analysis and Policy Development
Analyze and interpret new and proposed codes, laws, regulations, and court decisions. Assess their impact on APS and develop appropriate policies and procedures. Influence, where possible, the implementation of laws and regulations affecting APS.
Agency Representation and Special Projects
Represent APS in dealings with Federal and State OSHA, municipal agencies, and industry organizations on safety matters. Participate in or lead special projects as assigned.
Program Implementation and Auditing
Develop, implement, monitor, and audit safety programs to help management meet safety targets. Oversee the Corporate Hazard Identification and Correction Reporting Procedure to ensure compliance with NESC and other applicable codes and standards. Investigate electrical contacts and near misses. Track and monitor hazards using MAXIMO or other applicable systems to ensure timely resolution and reduce company risk exposure.
Contractor Safety Oversight
Manage the Contractor Safety Program, ensuring external partners meet APS safety standards.
We Want to Speak With You If You Have:
A strong background in safety compliance, risk management, or regulatory affairs. Experience interpreting and applying OSHA, NESC, and other safety codes. Proven ability to develop and implement safety programs across diverse teams. Excellent communication skills and the confidence to represent APS externally. Familiarity with work order systems like MAXIMO is a plus.
Minimum Requirements Safety Consultant
Bachelor's degree in safety or related discipline and 5 years of professional safety related field experience, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. A working knowledge of Federal, State and local Safety/Health Regulations. Strong oral and written communications skills. Basic Computer skills.
Safety Consultant Senior
Bachelor's degree in Occupational or Industrial Safety, Loss Control Risk Management or Business Administration and 8 years extensive professional safety related experience, OR an equivalent combination of related education and experience. Knowledge of industry standards, Federal, State and Local safety regulations with a high level of technical and regulatory experience in OSHA, ARS, FAA, NESC and other applicable codes, ordinances and statutes. In-depth experience developing, administering and implementing complex safety programs. Experience in professional committees and organizations through participation that increases safety awareness and compliance. Strong oral, interpersonal and written communication skills. Certification as a Safety Professional Industrial Hygienist desired.
Major Accountabilities
Counsel and inform management, staff, employees and the public regarding safety concerns, violations, non-compliance risks; recommend solutions that utilize a high level of technical knowledge and experience to develop innovative and cost-effective safety strategies. Analyze and interpret new and proposed codes, laws, regulations and court decisions and assess their impact on APS. Develop appropriate policies and procedures, influence, to the extent possible, implementation of laws and regulations that have an impact on APS. Represent APS in dealing with Federal and State OSHA, Municipal and other Industry Agencies and Organizations regarding public safety issues. Work on special projects as assigned. Develop, implement, monitor and audit public safety programs and policy development that assist management in reaching safety CSI's. This includes the Corporate Hazard Identification and Correction Reporting Procedure to help ensure compliance with the NESC and other applicable codes, ordinances, guidelines and statutes. Investigate electrical contacts and near misses; track and monitor hazards input into the work order management system MAXIMO or other applicable system to ensure timely resolution of these hazards thereby reducing company exposure to risk. Train and mentor other safety professionals in and outside the company; participates on industry and work-related organizations and committees and reviews work of other staff to ensure accuracy, quality and consistency of information provided. Provide technical support in development and management of the departmental budget. Participate on technical industrial committees and work groups, providing a high level of technical expertise and assistance, and represent the interests of APS.
