Data Scientist
Since 1898, we have helped customers complete more than 25,000 projects in 160 countries on all seven continents that have created jobs, grown economies, improved the resiliency of the world's infrastructure, increased access to energy, resources, and vital services, and made the world a safer, cleaner place. Differentiated by the quality of our people and our relentless drive to deliver the most successful outcomes, we align our capabilities to our customers' objectives to create a lasting positive impact. We serve the Infrastructure; Nuclear, Security & Environmental; Energy; Mining & Metals, and the Manufacturing and Technology markets. Our services span from initial planning and investment, through start-up and operations. Core to Bechtel is our Vision, Values and Commitments. They are what we believe, what customers can expect, and how we deliver. As a Data Scientist on the AI Delivery Team, you will help design, develop, and deploy AI solutions that bring this transformation to life — automating reporting, accelerating schedule development, and giving project teams earlier visibility into issues before rework becomes necessary. You will combine a century of Bechtel data and proven processes with some of the most powerful technologies our industry has ever seen, and apply them at enterprise scale. Partnering with data engineers, software teams, and subject matter experts, you will deliver reliable, production-ready AI systems whose productivity gains are felt on real projects and on the jobsite. You want to be part of groundbreaking EPC projects — applying AI to challenges that shape skylines, power grids, and communities around the world. You are driven to find where technology creates the most value and turn it into solutions teams actually feel on the jobsite; you understand the technology is rarely the hard part. You are imaginative and engaged in emerging technologies, staying current on the newest and best methods in AI and machine learning, from agentic systems to multimodal models. You can rapidly iterate and evolve ideas into tangible, production-ready solutions — combining the best tools available with the expertise to use them well. You are energized by both scale and heritage: eager to build on a century of Bechtel data and proven processes while helping move the company — and the industry — forward. Build, validate, and help deploy AI/ML models for well-defined use cases, working alongside senior data scientists to refine success metrics with stakeholders. Support scalable data preparation: profiling, cleansing, integration, and feature engineering, partnering with data engineers to build reliable data pipelines. Develop and deploy GenAI and ML models using modern AI frameworks, transforming prototypes into scalable, production-ready solutions. Assist in deploying models on Azure ML and Databricks, integrating into Bechtel's digital ecosystem under guidance and following established best practices. Contribute to monitoring, evaluating, and improving deployed models to sustain measurable business impact over time. Help ensure solutions meet Bechtel's security, compliance, and governance requirements. Communicate technical concepts and findings clearly to both teammates and non-technical stakeholders. Stay current with emerging AI including agentic systems and multimodal models, and rapidly iterate ideas into working solutions. Bachelor's or Master's degree in a STEM field (Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Engineering, or related), with 0–2 years of experience including internships. Strong programming foundation in Python and core AI/ML libraries, supporting development of scalable and production-ready models. Hands-on experience with Generative AI frameworks, including LangChain and LangGraph, along with prompt engineering and optimization techniques. Solid grounding in statistics, experimental design, and rigorous model evaluation. Strong fundamentals in machine learning methods and in data structures and algorithms. Experience with data preparation, feature engineering, and SQL/NoSQL data stores. Exposure to cloud platforms (Azure, Databricks) through coursework, internships, or projects. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to translate technical work into clear, actionable outcomes. Demonstrated initiative and impact: internships, research, open-source contributions, competitions (e.g., Kaggle), or substantial academic/personal projects. For decades, Bechtel has worked to inspire the next generation of employees and beyond! Because our teams face some of the world's toughest challenges, we offer robust benefits to ensure our people thrive. Whether it is advancing careers, delivering programs to enhance our culture, or providing time to recharge, Bechtel has the benefits to build a legacy of sustainable growth. As a global company, Bechtel has long been home to a vibrant multitude of nationalities, cultures, ethnicities, and life experiences. This diversity has made us a more trusted partner, more effective problem solvers and innovators, and a more attractive destination for leading talent. We are committed to being a company where every colleague feels that they belong-where colleagues feel part of "One Team," respected and rewarded for what they bring, supported in pursuing their goals, invested in our values and purpose, and treated equitably. At Bechtel, our employees enjoy a competitive total rewards package that includes comprehensive medical, dental, and vision plans, along with optional disability and supplemental insurance options, generous paid time off (160 hours annually, accrued 6.16 hours per pay period), nine paid holidays, paid parental leave, discretionary bonuses, and a well-designed 401K plan with matching and profit-sharing components.
