Position Summary The Network Engineer is responsible for all aspects of the operation of the campus network, including installation, configuration, documentation, service records, troubleshooting, routine preventive measures, security, and stability. This position is part of a team supporting both wired and wireless networks on the main campus and remote locations. The role serves as a primary resource for technical support and maintenance concerns and ensures network procedures align with organizational goals, values, and standards, while promoting teamwork and effective communications. Required Qualifications Network Engineer I Associates degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience equating to two years. IT experience related to the installation, configuration, modification, and support of networked systems. Demonstrated ability to maintain meaningful preventive maintenance schedules. Familiarity with networking capabilities of various operating systems (Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, etc.). Working knowledge of the latest wireless technologies. Knowledge of routing protocols (OSPF, RIP, BGP, etc.). Understanding of WAN technologies. Demonstrated ability to apply troubleshooting and communication skills, and interact effectively with end users. Demonstrated positive interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with a POSITIVE attitude. Willing to be on call. Network Engineer II All qualifications of Network Engineer I, plus: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Information Systems, or equivalent education and experience. Three years of relevant IT experience related to installation, configuration, modification, and support of networked systems. Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to minimize redundancy and promote standardization. Experience with administration of one or more low-complexity applications (e.g., IPAM, SNMP, DNS, DHCP). Experience with administration of one or more high-complexity enterprise networked systems (e.g., wireless, firewalls, NAC, ACDs) or with large organizational impact. Experience administering networked systems in a high-availability configuration. Ability to work with user offices and subject matter experts to create solutions. Experience identifying and mitigating information security risks for the network. Ability to gather and analyze user needs and create specifications. Ability to participate in cross-functional teams to solve complex issues. Ability to recommend and implement changes in development, maintenance and overall system standards. Experience with scripting/programming to automate network tasks. Network Engineer III All qualifications of Network Engineer II, plus: Five years of relevant IT experience related to networked systems. Ability to assist with planning and strategy development around services and related systems. Develops consistent and timely documentation. Demonstrated initiative, ability to set priorities, solve problems, and work efficiently. Experience with administration of two or more high-complex networked systems. Advanced experience or knowledge in one or more scripting languages (e.g., Ansible). Seeks opportunities for improvements and develops proposals for implementation. Solicits input when making decisions; maintains professionalism with faculty, staff, and students. Efficient and expedient resolution of incidents and service requests; reliable performance; leadership in communications with stakeholders. Proven ability to perform above and beyond the Network Engineer II expectations. Preferred Qualifications Technical writing skills. Experience in higher education. Experience with Palo Alto, Cisco Meraki, Cisco ASA firewalls; ACLs; IDS/IPS; NetFlow; VPNs; DNSSEC; IPSEC; IPv6. Experience with VoIP and unified communications; network access control; F5 load balancers; Cisco and Aruba wireless systems; Aruba Clearpass. Wireless troubleshooting; database administration; application development. Demonstrated creative problem-solving; ability to perform under deadlines; relevant industry certifications. Duties & Responsibilities Network Engineer I: Responsible for installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of network devices (e.g., switches and routers); manage IT security procedures; use diagnostic tools to identify and repair complex problems; maintain documentation of network configurations, operating procedures, and service records; support students and staff on wired and wireless networks. All Responsibilities Of The Network Engineer I, Plus: Act as internal and external consultant for complex projects; analyze systems and procedures; define requirements for improvements; guide system development and implementation; define policy requirements for firewalls and ACLs; perform related networking tasks; collaborate with users on project requirements; prepare system proposal reports; develop technical manuals; recommend best network/system solutions; develop automation for network systems; coordinate with other college IT staff. All Responsibilities Of The Network Engineer II, Plus: Participate with faculty in research and instructional problem solving; teach courses as needed; advise on repair facilities and preventive maintenance needs; participate in long- and short-range technology planning.
