Reference Design Engineer Microchip Technology Inc. is seeking a creative, detail-oriented Reference Design Engineer to own the development and manage the entire lifecycle of our reference designs. This role combines embedded systems engineering with technical communication. Responsibilities Create, review or update schematics, PCB layouts, block diagrams, and other technical documentation to support reference design web pages. Develop or adapt embedded software for MCU/MPU based reference designs. Develop, publish, and maintain web content for reference designs addressing emerging market segments such as Edge Computing/IoT, Data Centers, AI/ML, Sustainability, E-Mobility, and Networking/Connectivity. Work closely with engineering, marketing, and other cross‑functional teams to gather technical information and translate it into clear, engaging web content. Ensure all web content is accurate, detailed, and meets quality standards. Create Salesforce projects to easily track and link reference designs to customer opportunities. Manage multiple reference design projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks and deadlines in a fast‑paced environment. Foster a collaborative team environment by supporting colleagues, contributing to release process improvements, and working effectively with other regions and divisional applications. Travel as needed for training or to support other regions. Perform additional job‑related responsibilities as directed by the manager. Qualifications BS or BSc in Electrical Engineering or equivalent. Minimum of 5 years of design experience in microcontroller or microprocessor based embedded systems. Minimum of 5 years of design experience with 8‑ and 32‑bit embedded C programming. Proficient with schematic capture and PCB layout tools such as Altium Designer and Siemens Xpedition. Practical experience using AI tools or AI‑assisted engineering solutions. Proficient in Microsoft Office tools including Outlook, Word, and SharePoint. Excellent verbal and written skills including ability to write and present clear and concise technical information in English. Excellent multi‑tasking abilities and strong organizational skills. Possess an eager attitude toward learning new skills and technology. Work effectively in a team environment with a positive attitude and willingness to support others. High attention to detail and a commitment to delivering quality work. Ability to establish trust and credibility. Ability to operate under minimal guidance and assume personal responsibility/accountability. Preferred Skills Experience with Adobe Experience Manager or equivalent web content management solutions. Familiar with block diagram tools. Familiar with Salesforce Lightning Service Console. Travel time up to 25%. Physical Requirements Standard office and computer equipment; Monday – Friday, 8 hours/day; 80% sitting, 15% standing, 5% walking. Lifting up to 25 lbs. Compensation The annual base salary range for this position is $75,000 – $166,000, depending on location, skills, and experience. Total compensation includes competitive base pay, restricted stock units, quarterly bonuses, health benefits, retirement savings plans, and an ESPP program.
