Warehouse duties
Minor maintenance PURPOSE To detail specific tasks and responsibilities for the position of Shuttle Driver in order for those persons holding this position to perform their job as safely, effectively, and efficiently as possible. SCOPE This document is used from date of hire throughout training and as a reference for the Shuttle Driver for tasks to be completed. This document is not all inclusive. RESPONSIBILITIES
Transport goods and freight from one location to another using a truck or tractor-trailer.
Complete a pre/post trip inspection on tractor and trailer before and after each trip to ensure safety and functionality.
Inspect load to ensure cargo is properly loaded and secured.
If load is not properly secured, notify dispatch and if necessary use straps/load locks for securement.
Review BOL for accuracy and maintain signed POD for submission to shipping coordinators as required.
Contact maintenance team and Penske repair hotline when repairs, inspections, or certifications are needed for tractor or trailer.
Schedule preventative maintenance and repairs with local lease provider (Penske/Ryder).
Contact Safety and Dispatch immediately after a safety incident (follow Company Accident/Incident process).
Ensure on-time pickup and delivery from consignee.
Comply with all traffic laws and FMCSR regulations, including hours of service restrictions.
Monitor weather and road conditions to adjust driving accordingly.
Manage cargo securement and load distribution to prevent damage or accidents.
Submit fuel receipts daily.
Communicate professionally with the Safety Department, Company leadership and associates, other motorists, shippers, receivers, law enforcement personnel, and DOT officers.
Pull the fifth-wheel release, tandem axle releases, and open/close trailer doors in all types of weather conditions.
Adjust trailer pin height by turning the metal crank mounted on the trailer to move the landing gear upward and downward to properly hook or disconnect the tractor from the trailer, or operate the hydraulic fifth wheel for the same purpose.
Adapt quickly to changing road conditions, traffic patterns, weather, and operational demands.
Work weekends as needed.
Perform additional duties as assigned by leadership.
Load and unload trailers using hand trucks, forklifts, or pallet jacks.
Pick and pack materials for shipping.
Upon certification, safely operate powered equipment (reach truck, forklift, pallet jack, etc.) according to facility rules and regulations.
Utilize the company WMS (MII) to manage inventory and trailer loading/unloading.
Maintain accurate inventory counts.
Perform cycle counts and physical inventories when bins are filled, completed, or emptied.
Assist with breaking down empty gaylords as required.
Assist other drivers and material handlers as assigned by leadership.
Do not operate powered equipment until certified at the specific location.
Shuttle equipment to and from repair locations as required.
Open trailer doors using the trailer door strap (peekaboo strap).
Chain tires during inclement weather in accordance with state regulations.
Maintain vehicle cleanliness according to maintenance procedures.
Complete yard checks as requested by leadership. OTHER DUTIES, AUTHORITY, AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain a safe and positive work environment.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Assist with warehouse cleaning.
Report damages and unsafe conditions.
Assist other Material Handlers as directed by the Warehouse Manager.
Actively participate in safety and quality programs.
Identify and report safety concerns.
Be responsible for your own safety, the safety of coworkers, and the environment.
Maintain a current, non-expired Class A CDL and valid DOT Medical Certificate.
Attend operational and safety meetings as requested.
Complete pre-shift forklift inspections.
Move product from trailers into the warehouse using a forklift.
Perform regular short-haul deliveries of finished goods between warehouses and customers.
Validate trailer inventory.
Assist with warehouse consolidation as needed.
Complete post-shift forklift inspections. QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with coworkers.
Moderate organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Ability to read and understand standard English documentation, including packing lists.
Communicate effectively with individuals from diverse social, cultural, educational, and economic backgrounds.
Perform effectively in environments with changing priorities and workloads.
Use basic math skills to perform material calculations.
Make sound decisions using company policies and established procedures.
Communicate effectively using radios and paging systems.
Recognize emergency situations and respond appropriately.
Ability to stand and walk throughout a 12-hour shift.
Hearing sufficient to recognize shouted warnings, alarms, and forklift horns.
Frequently lift, push, and pull up to 35 lbs. without assistance.
Safely operate a forklift in high-traffic, low-clearance environments.
Safely climb ladders and stairs without assistance and not be at risk for sudden loss of consciousness.
Possess a valid Class A CDL.
Have 1 year of verifiable comparable driving experience within the last 3 years, including pulling 53-ft trailers.
Meet the physical qualifications and examination requirements outlined in DOT Regulation 391.41.
Ability to use TMS and WMS systems.
