Position Overview Essnova is seeking a Database Administrator with expertise in Microsoft SQL Server, spatial databases, and enterprise geodatabase administration to support a federal marine minerals and geospatial information program.
The selected candidate will maintain enterprise geospatial databases, support schema updates and versioned environments, optimize database performance, and ensure compliance with federal metadata, security, and data management requirements. The role includes management of marine mineral datasets, geospatial services, cloud-hosted environments, and development, test, and production systems.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain enterprise geospatial databases across development, test, and production environments
Support schema modifications, versioning workflows, backups, and performance tuning
Implement change requests involving metadata, feature classes, tables, and database structures
Manage mosaics, rasters, indices, statistics, and database optimization activities
Publish and maintain geospatial services and associated data products
Catalog and organize marine mineral datasets and legacy study reports
Maintain file structures within DOI cloud-hosted environments
Ensure compliance with FGDC and ISO metadata standards
Manage sensitive datasets and support version control, reconciliation, and posting operations
Troubleshoot performance issues within complex cloud-hosted geospatial environments
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, GIS, Geography, Engineering, or a related field
Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft SQL Server administration
Experience with Spatial SQL and geospatial database technologies
Expertise in Enterprise Geodatabase design and versioned environment maintenance
Experience with database tuning, schema modifications, and content model updates
Knowledge of FGDC and ISO 19115 metadata standards
Experience supporting cloud-hosted database environments and troubleshooting performance issues
Ability to obtain and maintain a NACI/Public Trust clearance
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting BOEM, DOI, NOAA, USGS, or other federal geospatial programs
Familiarity with ArcGIS Enterprise geodatabases and branch/traditional versioning
Experience managing marine mineral or scientific datasets
Knowledge of Azure-hosted geospatial environments
GISP, Microsoft, or other relevant professional certifications
