Role Purpose The post holder will deliver high quality, family-centred care to children under 16, supporting consultants and allied health professionals while ensuring the safe, efficient running of the paediatric service.
The role includes a significant I.T., administrative, and coordination component, including management of electronic clinical documentation, results, care planning, patient flows, clinical audits, safeguarding records, and communication with families, consultants, and the wider MDT.

Manage patient results, ensuring timely review, escalation, and family communication.
Maintain accurate electronic clinical records in line with NMBI and Vhi standards.
Coordinate appointments, follow-ups, and MDT communication (calls, emails, pathways).
Prepare documentation for MDT meetings, safeguarding reviews, clinical queries, and audits.
Support policy updates, incident reporting, risk management, and QIPs.
Maintain compliance records (IP&C, environmental checks, mandatory requirements).
Assist with service reporting, data collation, and audit summaries for senior management.
Clinical Care & Family Support Deliver family-centred care and act as a child and family advocate.
Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate paediatric care.
Perform clinical procedures (e.g.
phlebotomy, ECGs).
Educate families and support follow-up communication.
Ensure safe handling and documentation of laboratory samples.
Quality, Safety & Professional Practice Participate in audits and implement QIPs with the CNM2.
Adhere to QSR framework, Vhi policies, and safeguarding requirements.
Escalate clinical, operational, and safeguarding risks appropriately.
Maintain NMBI professional standards, mandatory training, and support student nurses.
What you need to be successful: Essential Requirements Registered Children's Nurse with NMBI.
Minimum 5 years post-registration experience in a general paediatric setting.
Paediatric phlebotomy competency and experience in all age groups.
Experience in managing children with developmental disorders.
Up-to-date Paediatric and Adult Basic Life Support.
Demonstrated ability to act as a strong patient advocate.
Excellent interpersonal, communication and facilitation skills.
Strong organisational, planning, and prioritisation skills with excellent attention to detail.
Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively within an MDT.
Proficient IT skills, including use of electronic health records and clinical systems.
Flexibility to work evenings / weekends if/as required by the role.
Demonstrate alignment with the Vhi values.
Desirable Requirements Experience working in a Paediatric Outpatient Department.
Experience with clinical audits, QSR frameworks and quality improvement activities.
