Human Resource Manager Summary

This role is responsible for leading and executing the daily Human Resources functions for a fast-paced food manufacturing facility. This position serves as a strategic business partner to operations while maintaining responsibility for employee relations, staffing, performance management, administration of attendance records, training, compliance, employee engagement and execution of HR processes.

The HR Manager is expected to provide strong leadership, sound judgment, urgency, and independent decision-making while supporting both hourly production employees and facility leadership. Success in this role requires the ability to balance employee advocacy with business needs in a manufacturing environment operating multiple shifts.

Responsibilities
  • Employee Relations & Leadership:
    • Serve as the primary HR contact for supervisors, managers, and employees.
    • Conduct employee investigations and resolve employee relations concerns.
    • Provide coaching and guidance to leaders regarding policy application, performance management, and disciplinary action.
    • Facilitate conflict resolution and workplace issue investigations.
    • Promote a positive workplace culture aligned with company values.
    • Escalate significant employee relations matters appropriately while resolving routine issues independently.
  • Staffing & Recruitment:
    • Coordinate staffing agency relationships and temporary workforce management.
    • Conduct interviews and assist hiring managers with candidate selection.
    • Oversee onboarding and new hire orientation processes.
    • Monitor staffing levels and turnover trends and develop action plans as needed.
  • Performance Management:
    • Support supervisors with employee coaching, counseling, and corrective action.
    • Ensure consistency and fairness in performance management practices.
    • Maintain documentation related to disciplinary actions and employee performance.
    • Assist with performance review processes.
  • Attendance & Timekeeping:
    • Oversee attendance management and policy administration.
    • Ensure accurate application of attendance point systems.
    • Monitor timekeeping compliance and support payroll processes.
    • Assist leadership in resolving timecard exceptions and attendance concerns.
  • Training & Development:
    • Coordinate employee training programs and maintain training records.
    • Support cross-training initiatives and workforce development plans.
    • Assist in leadership development and supervisor training programs.
    • Monitor training compliance requirements.
  • Compliance & Risk Management:
    • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws.
    • Maintain employee files and HR records.
    • Administer FMLA, ADA, workers' compensation, and unemployment processes.
    • Conduct investigations related to workplace incidents and employee complaints.
    • Support safety initiatives and employee wellness programs.
  • Employee Engagement & Retention:
    • Lead employee engagement initiatives and recognition programs.
    • Conduct stay interviews and analyze turnover trends.
    • Assist with employee communication programs and engagement committees.
    • Support company culture initiatives and retention strategies.
  • HR Administration:
    • Maintain HRIS systems and employee data accuracy.
    • Generate reports and analyze workforce metrics.
    • Process payroll and support auditing activities.
    • Manage HR documentation and reporting requirements.
  • Leadership Expectations:

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Experience:

  • 5+ years of Human Resources experience required.
  • 2+ years of HR leadership or management experience preferred.
  • Manufacturing, food manufacturing, distribution, or industrial experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting hourly workforces in a multi-shift environment preferred.
