Database Administrator (Austin) (826460) Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) is a state agency located at 1411 Brazos St, Austin. The position is open to Texas residents or those willing to relocate. TWC does not consider applications from individuals requiring employment‑visa sponsorship.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Assist in the design, implementation, and maintenance of mainframe DB2 database structures.
Document database processes, interfaces, technical architecture, data models, and dictionaries.
Coordinate activities with the Mainframe DBA team and developers.
Promote and manage DB2 database objects across environments.
Maintain disaster‑recovery procedures; participate in tests and actual recoveries.
Develop and provide training or expert advice on database availability, design policies, and query tools.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and agency laws, rules, and procedures.
Contribute to teamwork, maintain a reliable work schedule, and provide on‑call support when required.
Perform additional duties as assigned to maintain IT operations.
YOU ARE A GREAT FIT WITH
Bachelor’s degree in computer information systems, computer science, management information systems, or a related technical field and six years of related work experience.
Experience and understanding of mainframe‑based relational databases.
Experience overseeing database structure design, maintenance, and policy development to ensure integrity.
Experience designing, recommending, and implementing backup and recovery procedures for hardware and software failures.
Knowledge of database security standards and controls.
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, detail oriented.
Ability to work cooperatively with a team of database administrators, analysts, and developers.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for customers, coworkers, and vendors.
Capacity to work independently while coordinating with others.
Analytical skills to develop plans addressing complex issues.
YOU QUALIFY WITH
Database Administrator III: Three years of full‑time experience in computer programming and/or systems analysis.
Database Administrator IV: Four years of full‑time experience in computer programming and/or systems analysis.
Relevant academic credits may be applied toward experience qualifications for this position.
