Director Of Analytics

The Director of Analytics will serve as a strategic leader and architect of enterprise analytics capabilities focused on managing healthcare cost trend across UHH's multi-market, multi-plan environment. This role is accountable for transforming data into actionable insights that directly inform cost containment strategies, vendor performance, clinical programs, and market-specific interventions.

This leader will move the organization from retrospective reporting to proactive trend management, building predictive and prescriptive analytics that identify cost drivers, quantify opportunity, and measure impact across a portfolio of initiatives.

Essential Job Functions And Duties
  • Lead development of a comprehensive healthcare cost driver framework (e.g., pharmacy, specialty care, site of care, utilization patterns, unit cost).
  • Identify and quantify primary drivers of medical and pharmacy spend across markets, plans, and populations.
  • Translate complex claims, eligibility, and clinical data into clear, actionable insights for executive decision-making.
  • Partner with clinical, network, and operations teams to align analytics with trend management priorities.
  • Design and operationalize analytics for a portfolio of medical trend management initiatives (e.g., site of care optimization, network strategy, utilization management, pharmacy interventions).
  • Develop initiative-level measurement frameworks, including: baselines and control groups, savings attribution methodologies, ongoing performance tracking.
  • Establish a standardized ROI and impact measurement model across all initiatives.
  • Build and deploy predictive models to identify emerging cost risks (e.g., high-cost claimants, specialty drug utilization, avoidable ER usage).
  • Develop early warning systems to detect shifts in utilization and cost trends before they materialize financially.
  • Advance capabilities in scenario modeling and forecasting to inform strategic and contracting decisions.
  • Lead structured deep-dive analyses into high-cost areas and anomalies, including: outlier provider or facility performance, variation in unit cost and utilization by market, network leakage and referral patterns.
  • Synthesize findings into clear hypotheses and recommended actions tied to financial impact.
  • Develop and maintain enterprise KPI dashboards for: cost trend and drivers, initiative performance, market-level variation.
  • Present insights to senior leadership and trustees in a concise, financially grounded, and action-oriented manner.
  • Serve as a key thought partner in budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning cycles.
  • Partner with Sr. Director of Analytics, IT and Data Engineering to ensure: scalable, reliable data infrastructure and pipelines, high data quality and integrity, alignment between business needs and technical architecture.
  • Partner with Sr. Director of Analytics to define data standards, definitions and governance practices to enable consistent reporting and analytics.
  • Build a lead a high-performing analytics team with capabilities in advanced analytics, data visualization and health care economics.
  • Establish best practices in: analytical rigor, storytelling with data, stakeholder engagement.
  • Mentor team members and elevate the organization's analytics maturity and adoption.
  • Partner with Underwriting and Finance on final assessments and models to ensure alignment with business financials.

  • Identify reporting and analytic challenges and develop practical solutions that support organizational performance.
  • Assist in developing policies, procedures, and governance frameworks that strengthen data execution discipline.
  • Plans, analyzes, and evaluates programs and services, operational needs, and fiscal constraints.
  • Supervises, leads, and delegates work and coaches, mentors, develops employees.
  • Analyzes problems, identifies, and develops alternative solutions, projects consequences of proposed actions, and implements recommendation/solutions.
  • Recommends hires and promotions, directs, and evaluates employment decisions for all assigned positions.
  • Responsible for the oversight of continued employee training requirements, safety, and quality initiatives.

Essential Qualifications

Years of Experience and Knowledge

  • 6 ~ 8+ years of experience in healthcare analytics, managed care, or health plan environments
  • 3 ~ 5 years of department management experience required
  • Demonstrated experience analyzing medical and pharmacy claims data at scale
  • Deep understanding of healthcare cost structures, utilization drivers, and reimbursement models

Education, Licenses, and Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's (e.g., MPH, MBA, MS in Analytics, Health Economics, or related field) strongly preferred
  • Project Management Institute certification (PMP or similar) preferred

Skills and Abilities

  • Advanced expertise in: predictive analytics and statistical modeling, healthcare cost and utilization analysis, ROI and savings attribution methodologies
  • Proficiency in tools such as: SQL, Python/R, data visualization platforms (e.g., Power BI, Tableau), experience working with large, complex datasets and modern data platforms
  • Proven ability to translate analytics into business strategy and financial impact
  • Strong executive presence with experience presenting to senior leadership or boards
  • Ability to operate in ambiguous, fast-paced environments and build new capabilities from the ground up
  • Highly collaborative, with the ability to influence across clinical, operational, and technical teams
  • Travel: Approximately 10-15%
