High school diploma or GED required. Current Washington State Medical Assistant Registration National AAMA or equivalent strongly preferred. BLS required. Basic computer knowledge required (Word, Excel, Internet, EMR)
Experience:
At least one (1) year recent experience providing direct patient care in an outpatient or acute care medical setting preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES (but not limited to):
Obtains vital signs and accurately records patients chief complaint, symptoms, history, allergies and immunizations in the medical chart or electronic medical record (EMR). Collects specimens as instructed by the physician/provider. Prepares patients for examination by the physician/provider, and supports, as needed, in the examination of the patient (e.g., hold child for injection, turn patient, hand instruments to provider, etc.). Obtains, prepares, and sets up supplies and instruments to be used in the care and treatment of patients. Administers injections/vaccines, medications; seeks clarification of unclear verbal or written orders, reports all drug errors or near misses as appropriate, consults with physician/provider when seeking additional information. Tracks and routes diagnostic test results to provider(s) for review, and communicates test results to patient when deemed appropriate by physician/provider. Reports abnormal values, significant deviations or key information to physician/provider promptly. Performs waived testing as allowable by CLIA (e.g., urine dip, blood sugar, rapid strep). Enters all required patient information and clinical data in the electronic medical record (EMR) system to maintain the paperless charting system of the clinic. Uses the principles of growth and development to assess each patients age-specific needs and provides age-specific treatment and care. Maintains a clean, well-stocked, safe environment for patients and staff; keeps patient care and utility areas neat and clean. Answers phone, takes messages, assists physician/provider or other staff as needed. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, safety, environmental, and infection prevention standards. Participates in departmental and organizational quality management activities. Cooperates with other personnel to achieve department objectives and maintain good employee relations, interdepartmental objectives, and infection control policies. Performs other duties as assigned.
