About Nord Quantique
At Nord Quantique, we strive to build impactful technology by relentlessly pushing our understanding of quantum science. We are an interdisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, innovators, builders, and enthusiasts on a mission to make quantum computing a reality. Our quantum processors are designed to reduce errors in quantum computation to facilitate long-term scaling toward fully-fledged quantum computers. We believe it is our responsibility to deliver this transformative technology for the greater good of society.
Located at the heart of the beautiful Eastern Townships region in the province of Quebec, Canada, we develop our technology in the vibrant quantum ecosystem of Sherbrooke. Leaning on more than a decade of vertical integration of quantum hardware, we are leveraging a comprehensive pool of quantum technology and micro-electronic infrastructure to deploy our quantum computing technology.
Salary: $123,115 – $143,000
Vacation: 5 weeks per year
Benefits : 5 weeks of vacation, Group insurance (including dental care), virtual care, lifestyle spending account (all available after 3 months of service)
Our current needs
Nord Quantique’s device R&D and early production efforts have been supported through internal work and partnerships at the Université de Sherbrooke’s 3iT cleanroom. This approach has proven very successful, allowing us to rapidly test different prototypes and develop process flows to unlock state-of-the-art performance, but it will not support the next phase of our roadmap. We are now establishing full nanofabrication capability at C2Mi, as one of only two partners engaged with C2Mi and its new Quantum Lab (LINQ). Our objective is ambitious and clear: by 2028, C2Mi must operate as a fully production-ready platform for Nord Quantique, delivering superconducting nanodevices that meet or exceed current 3iT performance, with an emphasis on reliably, repeatably, and at increased throughput.
To launch this critical initiative, we are seeking an experienced Process Integration Expert to join Nord Quantique’s growing C2Mi Nanofabrication team. This individual will contribute towards and execute Nord Quantique's technology transfer strategy between its R&D activities at 3iT and its manufacturing operations at C2Mi. Working hands-on in both cleanrooms, the successful candidate will ensure that fabrication processes are successfully transferred, qualified, and continuously improved while maintaining close technical alignment between Nord Quantique's nanofabrication teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to Nord Quantique’s technology transfer activities by supporting the transfer of nanofabrication processes developed at 3iT into the manufacturing environment at C2Mi, ensuring compatibility with C2Mi toolsets and process capabilities.
- Work hands-on in the 3iT cleanroom to develop and optimize fabrication recipes under the constraints of C2Mi equipment specifications.
- Ensure new process developments at 3iT can be efficiently incorporated into manufacturing at C2Mi.
- Develop, integrate, benchmark, and optimize nanofabrication processes for superconducting devices, driving yield, performance, and manufacturability.
- Balance multiple assignments and adapt to changing priorities while meeting deadlines.
- Generate detailed technical reports to support knowledge sharing and team decision-making.
- Provide regular progress updates to Nord Quantique’s Head of Nanofabrication, proactively identifying risks and proposing mitigation strategies
Success in this role will be measured by the successful transfer and qualification of fabrication processes at C2Mi, the establishment of robust process documentation and the ability to foster close technical collaboration across Nord Quantique's nanofabrication teams operating at both 3iT and C2Mi.
Education and experience requirements:
- Masters or PhD in Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Quantum Information, or a related field.
- Minimum of 6 years of hands-on experience developing and optimizing cleanroom processes in Micro/Nanofabrication facilities.
- Proven ability to independently carry out nanofabrication tasks in academic and/or industrial settings.
- Hands-on experience working in both industrial and academic semiconductor manufacturing settings.
Sought expertise and knowledge:
Core Expertise:
- Strong foundation in nanofabrication process development and troubleshooting in a cleanroom environment.
- Experienced with most of the following cleanroom techniques with deep mastery in at least one area: Lithography (E-beam & Photolithography), Metal deposition (e.g. E-beam, Sputter), Etching (ICP, RIE), Wet Chemistry Processing (Acid & Bases).
- Experience working with most of the following cleanroom metrology tools (ellipsometry, profilometry, 2-terminal measurements, SEM, AFM, XRD).
Preferred:
- Understanding of design concepts and workflow for superconducting circuits.
- Direct experience working with Josephson Junction and/or transmon nanofabrication.
- Experience ramping up from R&D to pilot or volume production
- Experience with lot/sample tracking and traceability using MES and/or structured travelers, with disciplined data capture.
Sought profile:
- Proactive approach to problem solving.
- Excellent communicator who can work with different people with different skill sets
- Highly organized, meticulous and efficient with a process-orientated mindset.
- Eagerness to learn new things
- Commitment to advancing quantum computing and building meaningful technology.
We are committed to building an inclusive team that draws on a wide range of experiences and are mindful that strengths can take many forms. We place value on initiative, adaptability, and a collaborative mindset, regardless of formal background.
