RCSI's research strategy aims to build upon its strength in translational biomedical and clinical research to deliver transformational, high impact changes in health care.
Targeting both Irish national and EU funding, along with increased collaboration with industry, is a major part of the RCSI research strategy.
Forging increased collaboration between RCSI PIs and industry is of critical importance to achieving success in this area.

About the Faculty The Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery is a dynamic, interdisciplinary, research-oriented environment, with over 20 staff members, including administrative, Faculty and research staff.
It currently has over 10 active research grants, including the NIHR funded Weather project in collaboration with four international universities, the UKRI Net Zero hub project, along with coordination and hosting of 19 PhD projects.
Summary of Post The Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery is running a twelve-month proof-of-concept trial of FLO mCPD, a digital CPD and compliance coach for healthcare professionals.
The platform turns everyday clinical reflection into structured, audit-ready continuing professional development.
We are recruiting a Commercial Lead to drive the transition from research to an export-led digital-health venture.
The post-holder owns market validation, pricing and procurement pathways, trial-partner engagement, and the spin-out roadmap, working alongside the Principal Investigator and the RCSI Technology Transfer Office.
This is the project's commercial driver: a post for someone who identifies early adopters, builds the business case, and prepares RCSI for the next funding stage.
Specifically, the duties of the post are: Oversee stakeholder engagement, pilot coordination and market validation across the proof-of-concept.
Coordinate pilot trials with clinical partners and convert engagement into formal case studies that quantify reductions in administrative workload and improvements in reflective practice.
Manage relationships with clinical partners, budget holders, educators and regulatory bodies; gather structured feedback on the product and service, and feed validated demand back to the design team.
Conduct competitive intelligence and regular SWOT analysis; position the platform's differentiators against established CPD providers.
Validate revenue and pricing models (institutional licensing, subscription, and enterprise integration) through direct interviews with budget holders.
Map procurement frameworks across Irish and UK healthcare; develop the Irish market plan and scope UK and international entry routes.
Scope follow-on funding and development opportunities; prepare the case for follow-on Enterprise Ireland support and the High Potential Start-Up phase; engage digital-health investors to socialise the spin-out.
Prepare the commercialisation plan and spin-out preparation documents jointly with the Technology Transfer Office and Enterprise Ireland advisors.
Lead quarterly progress reporting to the Principal Investigator, the oversight committee, and the funder, with the associated administrative and grant-compliance duties.
Comply with statutory legislation, RCSI and departmental rules and requirements on staff welfare and safety.
Represent the best interests of the Faculty and wider RCSI at all times.
Engage in appropriate professional training and development opportunities.
Perform such other duties as may be requested from time to time.
Qualifications
- (Essential): A Master's degree (Level 9) in business, innovation, commercialisation, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
Knowledge & Experience
- (Essential): A proven track record in healthcare commercialisation, stakeholder management, and innovation translation.
Significant commercial or industry experience (minimum 5 years), with demonstrable success in taking a product or service to market.
Experience in pricing validation, procurement navigation (public and/or private healthcare), and investor engagement.
Strong planning, reporting, and relationship-management skills.
