The position holds ultimate accountability for the end results of their area, exercising control over resources, contributing to policy formulation, and leading strategic planning within the Wealth NAM Payments technology domain. This role primarily impacts a significant sub-function and is involved in the short-to-medium-term planning of actions and resources. Full management responsibility includes people leadership, budget oversight, and strategic planning, encompassing performance evaluation, compensation, hiring, disciplinary actions, and terminations, as well as budget approval.
Responsibilities
Attract senior talent across multiple functions both inside and outside the company and teach others how to set high organizational performance standards, determine performance measures and goals, and establish a leadership bar.
Recognize trends for larger-scale development needs within and across teams and build plans to develop skills, sharing talent development best practices across the organization.
Lead the end-to-end development, implementation, and successful delivery of large-scale, critical, and/or technically challenging software initiatives related to payments platforms, payment gateways, fraud detection systems, or core banking payment integrations, including new product development and significant refactoring efforts.
Think holistically in terms of scalable architecture and resilient systems for high-volume, low-latency payments systems, maintaining detailed technical knowledge and proactively driving improvements in consistency, integration, and interoperability.
Audit department goals to ensure alignment with broader organizational goals and hold the department accountable for performance against those goals.
Develop and communicate a department vision that supports the broader organizational vision, ensuring team culture consistently demonstrates alignment with leadership principles and visibly ties department decisions to leadership tenets.
Influence the team’s technical and business strategy by making insightful contributions to priorities and approach, taking the lead on identifying and solving ambiguous problems and architectural deficiencies.
Communicate ideas effectively to achieve the right outcome for the team and customers, harmonize discordant views, and lead the resolution of contentious issues.
Lead design reviews for the team and actively participate in design reviews of related software or other team software at the location.
Lead by example in code, development, and implementation decisions, providing insightful code reviews and taking ownership of outcomes.
Demonstrate technical influence over 3–4 teams through collaborative software effort or by increasing their productivity and effectiveness via engineering best practices.
Participate in hiring and mentor others, improving their skills and knowledge of the software and their ability to get things done.
Assess risk appropriately when business decisions are made, ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations and company policy, and supervise activity of others with accountability for maintaining standards.
Qualifications
10+ years of relevant experience in product line management, e‑commerce, and/or strategic planning.
Develop and maintain front-end components using Angular and back-end services with Java, ensuring seamless integration through well-designed APIs.
Architect and implement resilient and high-performing microservices architectures, managing data persistence with MongoDB and integrating solutions into continuous deployment pipelines using CI/CD best practices.
Significant experience building complex business and/or transactional models.
Deep understanding of the payments domain, including payment networks, clearing & settlement, fraud management, and regulatory compliance (e.g., ISO 20022, PCI DSS).
Thrived and succeeded in delivering high-quality technology products or services in a high-growth environment where priorities shift rapidly.
Use hard data and metrics to back up assumptions and develop business cases.
First-class leadership and influencing skills, including experience managing a tech team.
Demonstrated interpersonal and talent management skills, including the ability to identify and develop product-management talent.
Education
Bachelor’s/University degree; Master’s degree preferred.
Salary & Benefits Full-time salary range: $192,000 – $288,000. In addition to salary, Citi’s offerings may also include discretionary and formulaic incentive and retention awards.
