The Safety Officer will be responsible for supporting, implementing, and maintaining health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards across a pharmaceutical manufacturing site, with a strong focus on construction, engineering, maintenance, and contractor activities.

The role requires ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, company procedures, pharmaceutical industry standards, and project-specific safety requirements.
The successful candidate will have practical experience working in pharmaceutical, GMP-regulated, industrial, or high-risk construction environments, with the ability to manage contractor safety, risk assessments, permit-to-work systems, inspections, incident investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities Support the implementation and maintenance of site Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) programmes.
Ensure safe working practices are maintained within GMP-controlled areas.
Support construction and engineering works while minimising impact on manufacturing operations.
Work closely with Engineering, Facilities, Quality, Operations, and Project teams.
Promote a strong safety culture across employees, contractors, and site visitors.
Conduct regular site inspections, safety audits, and workplace observations.
Identify hazards, assess risks, and ensure appropriate corrective actions are implemented.
Review and monitor Risk Assessments, Method Statements (RAMS), and Safe Systems of Work.
Manage and monitor contractor safety performance on-site.
Deliver site inductions, toolbox talks, and safety briefings.
Support construction, maintenance, shutdown, and engineering activities from a safety perspective.
Ensure compliance during high-risk activities including: Work at height Hot works Confined space entry Lifting operations Excavation works Electrical works Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures Support incident, near miss, and safety observation investigations.
Assist with root cause analysis and implementation of preventative actions.
Maintain accurate HSE records, reports, and compliance documentation.
Requirements Relevant Health & Safety qualification Proven experience as a Safety Officer / HSE Advisor within construction, industrial, manufacturing, or pharmaceutical environments.
Strong understanding of construction safety legislation and best practices.
Experience managing contractors and subcontractors on-site.
Experience completing inspections, audits, risk assessments, and safety documentation. xyswxtq
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence safe behaviours.
