Position Title - Content Tutor Department - Center for Academic Support Appointment Term - Academic Year (August - May) FLSA - Non-Exempt Job Summary - In the MoWest Center for Academic Support (CAS), content tutoring is a term used to describe tutoring for subject areas other than general studies mathematics and writing. Content Tutors are listed for specific courses on the CAS website, and all Content Tutors are hired because of their knowledge in discipline(s). Essential Duties - Attending a one-hour tutor trainingEntering and updating availability on TutorTrac throughout the semester to allow students to schedule tutoring appointmentsMeet and tutor students on course materialMaintain ongoing communication with the Content Tutor Coordinator and discuss problems or potential problems as neededReview course notes, textbook, etc. as needed to maintain necessary knowledge of the materialOther duties as assigned Required Qualifications - Degree seeking MoWest StudentEnrolled at least part-timeMust have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPAReceived an A or B in the course applicant is interested in tutoring.Obtain a recommendation by the professor who currently teaches the course or who has taught the course in the past, or, in special circumstances, by the department chairperson. Preferred Qualifications - Preference will be given to applicants who received an A in the aforementioned courseApplicants who are eligible for Federal Work Study are encouraged to apply Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - Knowledge in content areaStudent collaboration and interactionFlexibilityProblem solving and critical thinking skills Physical Demands - Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Additional Demands - Possible online tutoring.Must have access to a stable internet connection and a device with working camera, microphone and speakers.Tutors will be hired throughout the academic year based on tutoring requests. Location where duties are to be performed - (CAS) Center for Academic Support, Hearnes 213 Federal Work Study - Not Required Hours of Work - Hours per week will vary based on the student demand for tutors throughout the semester. May be up to 5 hours per week.
