About The Role CarMax sources hundreds of thousands of vehicles each year through consumer purchases, auctions, and other channels. Each vehicle goes through a complex journey from acquisition through reconditioning and logistics before it is ready to be sold to customers. The Supply Chain Strategy team leverages data, analytics, and strategy to optimize this journey, ensuring we purchase an optimal mix of cars, recondition those cars efficiently, and move them through our network to support growth of our retail sales.
Sub‑teams
Consumer Supply Strategy – Optimizes acquisition from consumers through digital and omnichannel processes.
B2B Strategy – Enhances the way we exchange with other businesses through auctions or direct purchases.
Merchandising Strategy – Ensures we evaluate and buy vehicles through all channels efficiently.
Logistics Strategy – Optimizes vehicle movement across our network balancing cost and speed.
Service Operations Strategy – Enhances reconditioning operations to ensure vehicles meet quality standards.
What You Will Do – Essential Responsibilities Roles may partner more closely with product or field operations teams. Regardless of the focus, a successful Sr. Analyst will:
Be an analytic partner and establish close working relationships with product managers or operational partners.
Design and analyze tests to evaluate the effectiveness of changes to products or operational processes.
Enhance analytical tools such as models, reports, and dashboards to monitor performance and drive ongoing improvement.
Qualifications And Requirements
Track record of excellent problem solving, strategic thinking, and quantitative/qualitative analysis.
Experience conducting large‑scale data analysis to support conclusions and proficiency with data analysis tools such as SQL, PowerBI, or Tableau.
Ability to apply business and technical knowledge to solve complex problems, produce results, and make recommendations.
Ability to communicate complex topics to audiences with varying backgrounds and technical familiarity.
Willingness and enthusiasm to collaborate with a team of passionate analysts and business partners shaping strategy at both big‑picture and detailed levels.
Two or more years of experience in an analytical or strategic role.
Four‑year undergraduate degree with strong academic performance.
Work Location and Arrangement This role will be based out of the CarMax Midtown Office (Richmond, VA) and associates will work onsite four days per week.
Work Authorization Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full‑time basis. Sponsorship will not be considered for this specific role.
