The Senior Testing Technician performs testing activities independently, analyzes and evaluates equipment condition, develops technical recommendations, oversees safety compliance, and provides guidance and mentorship to Testing Technicians I and II. NETA certification is not required; however, candidates should possess the technical knowledge, field experience, leadership capabilities, and power systems expertise consistent with an advanced-level electrical testing professional. This role serves as a key field resource supporting project execution, customer relationships, technical quality, and operational excellence. Pay: $60.00-$75.00. The pay listed is the base hourly rate + plus available paid overtime. The pay listed is the salary range for this position. Essential Functions

  • Independently perform acceptance, maintenance, troubleshooting, and commissioning testing of electrical power equipment and systems.
  • Test, inspect, evaluate, troubleshoot, maintain, and document:
    • Low-, medium-, and high-voltage switchgear
    • Protective relays
    • Power transformers
    • Instrument transformers
    • Circuit breakers
    • Motor control centers
    • Automatic transfer switches
    • Power cables
    • Battery systems
    • Grounding systems
    • Protective and control systems
  • Analyze test data and determine equipment condition, serviceability, and recommended corrective actions.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting of electrical power systems and equipment.
  • Lead field activities on assigned projects and coordinate work with customers, project managers, and subcontractors.
  • Review project specifications, testing procedures, one-line diagrams, and construction documents.
  • Perform and supervise electrical switching activities within assigned qualifications and company procedures.
  • Prepare and review field reports, test documentation, deficiency reports, and technical recommendations.
  • Ensure compliance with company procedures, customer requirements, OSHA regulations, NFPA 70E requirements, and industry standards.
  • Conduct jobsite safety meetings, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and pre-task planning activities.
  • Train, mentor, and provide technical guidance to Testing Technician I and Testing Technician II personnel.
  • Support emergency response activities, outages, startup activities, commissioning projects, and critical shutdowns.
  • Serve as a technical resource for customers and internal stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 5–8 years of experience in electrical testing, commissioning, field service, industrial maintenance, utility operations, power generation, data center operations, or related electrical power systems work.
  • Demonstrated experience independently performing electrical testing and troubleshooting activities.
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Electrical theory
    • AC and DC power systems
    • Protective relaying
    • Power distribution systems
    • Power quality concepts
    • Electrical equipment operation and maintenance
  • Ability to read and interpret:
    • One-line diagrams
    • Three-line diagrams
    • Schematics
    • Protection and control drawings
    • Equipment specifications
    • Construction documents
  • Experience interpreting and evaluating electrical test results.
  • Working knowledge of:
    • NETA Acceptance Testing Specifications (ATS)
    • NETA Maintenance Testing Specifications (MTS)
    • IEEE standards
    • ANSI standards
    • NEC requirements
    • OSHA regulations
    • NFPA 70E
  • Experience using advanced electrical testing equipment and diagnostic instruments.
  • Strong written communication skills with ability to prepare professional technical reports.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to travel up to 75% based on project and customer requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate degree or higher in Electrical Technology, Engineering Technology, Electronics, Power Systems, or related field.
  • Previous experience serving as a lead technician or field supervisor.
  • Experience with commissioning and startup activities.
  • Experience supporting data centers, utility systems, substations, industrial facilities, healthcare facilities, or mission-critical environments.
  • NETA certification or equivalent industry-recognized testing credentials.
  • OSHA 30, NFPA 70E, CPR/First Aid, or similar safety certifications.
  • Experience performing electrical switching procedures and outage coordination.
Leadership Responsibilities
  • Provide direction and mentorship to junior technicians.
  • Review work quality and documentation produced by assigned personnel.
  • Assist with training and development activities.
  • Promote and enforce a strong safety culture.
  • Support project scheduling and field execution activities.
  • Coordinate effectively with project managers and customers to ensure successful project delivery.
