This role is a fantastic opportunity for a commercially sharp professional to take full ownership of project finances, mentor junior staff, and progress their career long-term with a supportive industry leader.
The Role Reporting directly to the Commercial Manager, you will be a key member of the project delivery team, heavily involved in the commercial management of major projects.
You will drive financial success by controlling costs, managing risks, administering contracts, and working closely with project leadership to ensure profitable and successful project delivery.
Key Responsibilities Commercial Control & Risk Management: Perform risk, value management, and cost control.
Identify and develop strategic responses to commercial risks, updating them on a monthly basis.
Procurement Strategy: Advise on procurement strategies and prepare procurement schedules in conjunction with Project and Commercial Managers.
Sub-Contractor Tendering & Procurement: Prepare comprehensive sub-contract documentation, check quantum in Bills of Quantities (BoQs) using modern estimating software, and analyze market quotations to recommend best-value appointments.
Package Administration: Manage interim sub-contractor payments, handle sub-contractor claims, and finalize sub-contract final accounts and retention management.
Main Contract & Change Management: Support project leadership in administering the main contract, prepare interim valuations, negotiate final accounts, and rigorously manage/notify variations in line with contract conditions.
Cost Reporting: Support the preparation of monthly Cost Value Reconciliation (CVR) reports, tracking sub-contractor costs, preliminaries, materials updates, and cash flows.
Team Leadership: Actively mentor, support, and develop junior and assistant Quantity Surveyors within the team.
Key Requirements Education: B.Sc.
in Construction Economics, Quantity Surveying, or a related discipline.
Experience4+ years of dedicated experience at a Senior QS level, with a proven track record of delivering complex projects within budget.
Professional Credentials: Chartered member (MSCSI / MRICS) or currently embarking on the APC process.
Technical Skills: Highly IT literate, with direct experience using Microsoft Office alongside industry software likeCubit, CostX, or COINS.
Soft Skills: Exceptional time management and strong verbal and written communication skills, with a proven ability to manage claims and assess the effects of project delays/disruptions.
