The Sr. Research Data Analyst will build complex data models and conduct complex data analysis in support of research projects, programs, and/or studies. The Sr. Research Data Analyst is responsible for the coordination of data and data analysis activities across multiple studies.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Develop, manage, and maintain a database for study data for multiple studies.
Develop standard operating procedures for initial data entry and data updates.
Oversee quality control procedures for databases and ongoing analysis.
Develop data models.
Conduct statistical analyses of data collected in this system to support empirical study.
Build transmission models.
Create and curate software tools across diverse programming languages in support of research efforts.
Other Duties
Consults with investigators to determine their needs with respect to analysis of data in collaboration with a member of the faculty.
Maintains appropriate systems for database-associated management, including preparing codebooks, cleaning data, creating analytic data sets, and performing quality assurance/quality control.
Carries out appropriate methodological procedures for statistical analysis of data, ranging from descriptive exploratory data analyses to causal inference.
Create and curate software tools across diverse programming languages in support of research efforts, with routine translation of data, models, and tools between languages.
Prepares written reports of the statistical analyses, including relevant statistical theory, references, methods, results, and conclusions.
Plan data management, including determining type format of data and types of documentation, considering privacy, confidentiality, and other ethical issues.
Clean data by coding missing data, fixing or deleting miscoded data, transforming variables into more useful formats, and annotating the data properly. Use descriptive statistics to help characterize and summarize the data.
Collaborate with clinical and scientific investigators to propose ideas for new projects, design research, develop data plans, and prepare analyses with general direction from investigators.
Apply different technical approaches to visualize the data and prepare publication-quality tables and graphs based on analyses.
Identify potential data problems from analytic queries and bring them to the attention of the team.
Demonstrate understanding of high-dimensional data collection processes and data sets, and share knowledge with collaborators.
Collaborate closely with investigators, project managers, and other team leadership to ensure that research study or project results and conclusions are presented accurately and without bias.
Demonstrate progress in ability to multi-task and manage time spent working with individual faculty members and on specific projects.
Participate in regularly scheduled meetings with study investigators and the team. Prepares progress reports as needed. Maintain appropriate systems for data organization.
Ensure data quality for documentation and dissemination of data. Conduct and track specific activities to accomplish project goals, including evaluating and reporting data and documenting analytic procedures.
Able to work collaboratively in a team environment with a high degree of initiative and self-motivation.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's Degree in a related field.
One year of related experience.
Highly specialized advanced knowledge, education, and/or training in a specialized field of study to conduct research.
Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
Doctoral Degree in a related discipline.
Knowledge and practical experience with programming languages (e.g., Java, C or C++), a scripting language (e.g., Perl, Python), and a statistical environment (e.g., R).
Familiarity with longitudinal data analysis of epidemiological studies.
Comfort with coding and bioinformatics, including both bacterial genomics and host gene expression analysis (primarily Illumina sequencing data).
Comfort working in a command-line environment, such as a high-performance computing environment (like the Rockfish cluster).
Experience with computers and knowledge of SAS, Python, STATA, or R, as well as either Mac OS or Windows operating systems.
Proficiency in Office Suite of applications.
Classified Title: Sr. Research Data Analyst Role/Level/Range: ACRP/04/MD Starting Salary Range: $55,800 - $97,600 Annually ($75,000 targeted; Commensurate w/exp.)
