The Social Care Worker supports the daily care, well-being, and therapeutic development of children and young people in a residential setting.

Working as part of a team, you will provide consistent, compassionate, and trauma-informed care, helping to create a safe, nurturing, and child-centred environment.
The role involves contributing to care planning and individual support strategies, building positive relationships with young people, developing life skills, and supporting them through emotional and behavioural challenges.
Flexible shift work, including evenings, weekends, sleepovers, and waking nights, is required to ensure continuous high-quality care.
Main Duties and Responsibilities Support the assessment, planning, and implementation of individual care, behaviour management, and crisis support plans for children and young people.
Provide high-quality residential care tailored to each young persons needs, promoting their safety, well-being, and development.
Build positive, trusting relationships with young people and support them in managing emotional and behavioural challenges.
Assist with educational activities, including supporting learning, homework, and the achievement of individual educational goals.
Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential records of care, progress, incidents, and outcomes.
Work collaboratively with families, social workers, education providers, healthcare professionals, and other relevant agencies.
Promote a safe environment by adhering to safeguarding, health and safety, and risk management procedures.
Support the smooth day-to-day running of the home, including household tasks, meal preparation, and maintaining a homely environment.
Participate in team meetings, training, supervision, and continuous professional development activities.
Contribute to a positive team culture, provide guidance to new or relief staff when required, and undertake additional responsibilities, including shift leadership duties, as appropriate.
Person Specification Qualifications
- Essential: A minimum Level 7 qualification in Social Care/Social Studies or relevant and or related qualification.
Candidates on the CORU register of Social Care Workers or statement of application from CORU to show application is being processed.
Experience
- Essential: Relevant post qualification experience of working at social care grade with children/young persons.
Proven experience in supporting vulnerable person(s) with complex needs, including challenging behaviour.
Prior experience working within teams and contributing to a positive team environment.
Experience in residential care or a similar environment.
Understanding of trauma-informed care, attachment, and child development.
Competencies
- Essential: Full, clean, manual driving license valid in Ireland.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to remain calm, empathetic, and resilient under pressure. xyswxtq
A team player with the ability to take initiative and work independently.
Knowledge of the HIQAs National Standards for Childrens Residential Centres Skills: social care children residential
