Position Summary This position supports Institutional Advancement by growing an engaged online community via official Tidewater Community College social media channels, building visibility and attracting prospective students.
Functional Responsibilities
Ensure timely and accurate responses to social media inquiries.
Create engaging, conversational replies in the college voice.
Monitor mentions of TCC and share relevant posts with internal stakeholders.
Develop and publish compelling content that highlights TCC culture, news, and events.
Collaborate with Campus Communications Officers, Marketing, and other TCC entities to plan weekly content.
Manage social media for college events and execute related projects.
Measure and report social media impact using analytics.
Contribute to the college-wide strategic marketing plan.
Work with the marketing director on posts supporting enrollment initiatives.
Engage with external entities, including businesses, media, and public officials.
Analyze marketing data and recommend strategies based on trends.
Experiment with new and alternative social media approaches.
Ensure consistency of messaging across the institution.
Collaborate with campuses, departments, and programs to improve social media practices.
Promote social media as a communication channel.
Manage TCC’s Social Media Policy and Best Practices guidelines.
Assist campus communicators by writing articles and taking photographs as needed.
Post articles and photos in the content management system.
Qualifications
Ability to write compelling, concise copy promoting TCC’s culture, programs, people and events.
Research skills to discover and amplify TCC news and stories.
High‑level skill with social media platforms; ability to create shareable content.
Excellent communication across multiple social media channels on a daily, often hourly basis.
Professionalism and respect in representing TCC to all participants.
Experience spearheading marketing campaigns that increase web referrals, engagement and audience growth.
Capability to recruit, coach, and empower stakeholders to amplify TCC stories.
Awareness of social media trends and ability to apply analytics.
Solid knowledge of English language, spelling, grammar, and composition rules.
Demonstrated experience using social media to engage with and grow online communities.
Preferred Experience
Marketing, journalism, communications, or social media coordination roles.
No state‑vehicle operation required.
