A leading heavy civil contractor is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to oversee large-scale underground utility and infrastructure projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. This individual will play a key leadership role managing complex public utility projects involving water, sewer, storm drain, rehabilitation, and trenchless construction operations.
The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership experience, a proven track record managing multiple high-value projects, and the ability to mentor project teams while maintaining strong client relationships with municipalities, utility authorities, and engineering firms.
Responsibilities- Lead and oversee multiple underground utility construction projects from preconstruction through final completion
- Manage project teams including Project Managers, Project Engineers, Superintendents, and field personnel
- Maintain responsibility for project budgets, forecasting, schedules, contract administration, and overall project performance
- Develop and maintain relationships with owners, municipalities, consultants, and subcontractors
- Oversee procurement, subcontractor negotiations, change orders, claims management, and project reporting
- Coordinate closely with operations teams to ensure projects are executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with specifications
- Support business development efforts and participate in strategic planning for upcoming pursuits
- Assist with staffing, mentoring, and developing junior project management personnel
- Ensure compliance with company safety standards, quality control requirements, and regulatory guidelines
- Participate in executive-level project reviews and operational planning meetings
- 10+ years of experience in heavy civil or underground utility construction
- Strong background managing water, sewer, stormwater, or wastewater infrastructure projects
- Experience overseeing large municipal or public works projects
- Familiarity with trenchless utility construction methods such as CIPP, pipe bursting, sliplining, and rehabilitation work is highly preferred
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and large operational teams simultaneously
- Strong financial management and forecasting experience
- Excellent leadership, communication, and client management skills
- Ability to mentor and develop Project Managers and field leadership teams
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred
