Network Engineer Under the supervision of the Director of Network and Telecommunication Engineering, the Network Engineer is responsible for designing, administering, installing, configuring, maintaining, and utilizing ACC’s network. This critical role supports both operational and strategic objectives of the IT department and the college.
Responsibilities
Implement, manage and provide support for LAN, WAN, wireless networks, firewalls, routers, switches, VPNs in a multi‑campus environment.
Support all aspects of the district’s telecom network – VoIP, SIP, POTS.
Perform installation, configuration, maintenance, and security related activities for network equipment.
Monitor network performance, ensuring system availability and reliability.
Troubleshoot complex network issues and provide support as needed.
Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to ensure secure network design and implementation.
Develop and maintain network documentation, diagrams, procedures.
Collaborate with network architects on design, configuration, and documentation.
Conduct capacity planning and performance tuning.
Participate in disaster recovery planning and testing.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
Work with vendors and service providers to resolve issues and manage service delivery.
Define scope of project milestones with project managers and stakeholders.
Perform project‑related tasks as part of strategic project teams.
Successfully register and certify with the Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS).
Knowledge
Computer network domains, technologies, and protocols.
Networked systems access and security guidelines and procedures.
Network performance tuning techniques.
Current trends and information sources for managing network systems.
Project planning and management principles.
System backup and recovery procedures and techniques.
Strong understanding of OSI model, subnetting, NAT, VLANs, IP routing.
Deep knowledge of routing protocols such as OSPF, BGP, EIGRP.
Familiarity with network security concepts including ACLs, IPS/IDS, VPNs, firewall policies.
Understanding of cloud networking (AWS, Azure, GCP) architectures and services.
Knowledge of network automation concepts and scripting (Python, Ansible) is a plus.
Skills
Routing & Switching expertise using Cisco (IOS, NX‑OS).
Firewalls & Security using Palo Alto, Fortinet, Cisco ASA/Firepower, VPNs (IPSec, SSL).
Wireless network configuration using Aruba, Cisco WLC, Meraki.
DNS Server skills: understanding of DNS hierarchy, DNS record types, familiarity with BIND; Windows DNS & AD a plus.
Expertise using monitoring tools (SolarWinds, PRTG, Wireshark, NetFlow, SNMP, Syslog).
Cloud networking in Azure and AWS environments.
Software defined networking.
Scripting & Automation: Python, Ansible, REST APIs.
Other: DHCP, NTP, RADIUS, TACACS+, NetScaler/F5 optional.
Ability to legally drive in Texas.
Maintain established work schedule.
Strong written and verbal communication for technical documentation and cross‑team collaboration.
Establish effective working relationships.
Prioritize multiple tasks, projects, demands.
Maintain confidentiality of work‑related information.
Use interpersonal and communication skills, tact, diplomacy.

Required Work Experience
Five years in network‑related technology roles.
Three years installing, configuring, maintaining routers, Ethernet switches, wireless APs, VPN concentrators, firewall devices.
Experience with network monitoring and diagnostic tools.
Proven experience with Cisco and Aruba network equipment.
Required Education
Associate degree, or four years of related work experience may substitute.
Preferred Education
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
Other Preferred Qualifications
Industry certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, PCNSE, F5 Certified, VMware Certified Professional (VCP) or equivalent.
Physical Requirements
Standard office or similar environment.
Standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling.
Occasional lifting of objects up to 10 pounds.
Salary Range (PG 9) $76,934 - $96,166
