Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant

Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant will assist in providing appropriate aspects of quality Acute Inpatient care, under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist. COTA will document all services provided to ensure accurate and timely billing of therapy services. The COTA assures that patient care follows the OT Plan of Care, the organizations guidelines, meets professional standards, community needs and is in compliance with Federal and State guidelines.

Responsibilities
  1. Occupational Therapy Assistant will assist in providing appropriate aspects of quality patient care, under the supervision of licensed therapists
  2. OTA will document all services provided to ensure accurate and timely billing of therapy services
  3. The OTA assures that patient care follows the OT Plan of Care, the organizations guidelines, meets professional standards, community needs and is in compliance with Federal and State guidelines
  4. Provides Therapy services established by the Occupational Therapist (OTR) in the patient Plan of Care
  5. Provides therapy services under the supervision of an OTR as determined by the Registered Therapist and in compliance with State and Federal guidelines
  6. Consults with OTR regarding changes in treatment or condition in a timely manner
  7. Appropriately and effectively completes documentation including daily notes and assisting the OTR to create progress notes, discharge summaries, or monthly reports as needed
  8. Submits billing, payroll, and expense documentation in a timely manner
  9. Communicates with patients, families, referring physicians and other members of the team
  10. Attends continuing education seminars/workshops to keep abreast of new clinical skills, programs or techniques
  11. Participates in care planning meetings, rehab meetings and family training in order to communicate patient progress as requested by OTR, Director of Rehab or Rehab Resource Consultant
  12. Follows organizational and facility policies and procedures to ensure employee and patient safety
  13. Ensures equipment is in good working order prior to providing care to patients
  14. Follows procedures for reporting damaged equipment
  15. Maintains a clean environment
  16. Attends required meetings, in-services and functions as designated by the Director of Rehab and/or the Rehab Resource Consultant
  17. Coordinates treatment goals with other team members
  18. Maintains valid licensure, certification or equivalent as requested by appropriate state agency
Qualifications
  • Minimum of Associate of Arts in Occupational Therapy Assistant
  • Licensure as required by CA State guideline
  • Certification as required by State of CA
  • CPR Certification
