Company: The Boeing Company, Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) is seeking a Lead Payload Design Engineer (Level 5) to support our Out-of-Production (OoP) Payloads Design Engineering (DE) team based in Seal Beach, California. The OoP Payloads DE team is responsible for the Continued Operational Safety Program (COSP), Safety Related Problem (SRP) program, and for providing support to BGS Spares, Service Engineering and Production Engineering changes for out-of-production aircraft. This role is integral to our commitment to safety and compliance with FAA regulations. Position Responsibilities
Works with the OoP Chief Program Engineer (CPE) office as the Responsible Engineer on COSP/SRP projects related to payloads for out-of-production aircraft. Organizes design reviews with subject matter experts, formulates path forward with findings and prepares technical presentations for executive review boards for potential safety items. Reviews engineering documents for past designs. Creates design solutions for SRPs, interfaces with suppliers for development, test and production activities. Supports BGS Spares and Service Engineering. Develops, maintains and modifies interior payload system and component designs, using 3‑D computer aided design tools and/or other design methods, to provide product definition to other engineering groups, production operations, suppliers and external customers throughout the product lifecycle. Works under minimal direction. Meets U.S. export control compliance requirements; a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22C.F.R. §120.62 is required. Expected to work 100% onsite in Seal Beach, CA. Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)
Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited engineering program (Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace Aeronautical or Materials Sciences). 14+ years of experience in related engineering roles, specifically payload design within the aerospace industry and commercial airplane programs. 5+ years of experience using CATIAV5, ENOVIA, and/or DELMIA. 5+ years of experience with commercial aircraft programs. Experience working with commercial payload systems and/or interiors (cabin, cockpit and cargo). Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)
20+ years of experience in payload design or related engineering roles within the aerospace industry, specifically commercial airplane programs, with credentials that recognize the candidate as a subject‑matter expert. Current designation as Organization Designation Authorization Engineering Unit Member (ODAE‑UM), Boeing Designated Expert (BDE), or designation by the FAA as a Designated Engineering Representative (DER). Experience leading a team of engineers, responsible for cost, schedule and technical quality of their output. Experience developing and mentoring other engineers and teams. Experience reviewing or approving service bulletins. Experience creating standardized documentation and processes. Conflict of Interest
