Role Description The Sales Trainee is a full-time, on‑site role based in the Charleston, South Carolina Metropolitan Area. In this role, the Sales Trainee will learn to support outside and inside sales efforts by assisting with customer inquiries, preparing quotes, and helping process orders for lumber, millwork, and other building products. The individual will shadow experienced sales team members, participate in product and systems training, and gain hands‑on experience in understanding inventory, pricing, and project requirements. Daily tasks include maintaining accurate customer and product information in the system, following up on leads, coordinating with operations and warehouse teams, and ensuring a positive customer experience at the counter, over the phone, and via email. The Sales Trainee will gradually take on more responsibility, with a path toward an independent sales role based on performance and product knowledge.
Qualifications
Strong communication and customer service skills to engage with clients, clarify project needs, and provide responsive support.
Interest in developing sales and sales management capabilities, including pipeline follow‑up, quoting, and account relationship building.
Ability to participate in and apply training related to building materials, millwork products, and internal systems.
Basic math and organizational skills to manage quotes, orders, and inventory‑related information accurately.
Motivation to learn the lumber, millwork, and building supply industry; prior experience in construction, building materials, or a related trade is a plus.
Comfort working in an on‑site, fast‑paced environment that involves both office and yard or warehouse interaction.
High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education in business, construction management, or a related field is beneficial.
Proficiency with basic computer applications (email, spreadsheets, ERP or POS systems) and willingness to learn company‑specific software.
