Role Overview Amazon Design Technologies is a multidisciplinary group within Amazon Devices that builds and provides engineering tools and workflows, software systems and integrations, automations, and design services to hardware engineering teams across Amazon. We manage enterprise engineering systems, CAD tools, PDM/PLM systems, High Performance Compute (HPC) environments, and license management/procurement. The ECAD Application Engineer will be responsible for configuring, customizing and extending the ECAD applications (Cadence OrCAD, Allegro, System Capture and Pulse) to support hardware engineering teams, define electrical engineering best practices, and integrate AI/ML technologies into traditional CAD workflows.
Key Responsibilities
Evaluate new features and functions that are made available within existing or potential ECAD tools to judge their potential benefits.
Serve as the primary technical contact with ECAD tool vendors, support and influence their roadmaps to meet Amazon EE needs.
Work with ECAD tool vendors to resolve issues with vendor-supplied code and advocate for enhancements and bug fixes.
Evangelize and drive adoption of ECAD tools through process development and training.
Define best practices through documentation and requirements definition for ECAD automation.
Deliver well‑written business requirements documents, system configuration documents, detailed functional design documents, user training documents and implementation documents.
Manage and maintain EDA scripts/automations and ECAD application extensions.
Collaborate with PDM, PLM and CAD systems teams to support engineering tools and process automations.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent.
3+ years of working experience with Cadence suite of applications (OrCAD/Allegro).
3+ years of working experience with System Capture.
3+ years of working experience with PDM/PLM system.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated ability to integrate AI capabilities into traditional engineering workflows.
