The Assistant Director is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of case management support for students living in university housing who come to the attention ofCmu Caresand may be experiencing challenges in areas such as personal well-being, safety concerns, basic needs and academics through a variety of interventions, referrals, and follow-up services. This includes supervision of Care Advocate staff providing case management support for on-campus students, collaborating with Residence Life staff on response path process and training support, and maintaining a case management caseload. The Assistant Director works closely with campus partners and representsCmu Caresin support of or backup to the Director.
Required Qualifications - Master's degree in higher education, counseling, social work, public health, or a related field. One year of experience working in case management environment with demonstrated knowledge of systems; experience managing response to crisis situations; and experience working as part of a collaborative support team. Ability to work with and assist others in navigating through complex systems. Comfort with consultation model, crisis intervention, safety assessments, and triage High degree of personal and professional integrity, a strong sense of ethics, and respect for privacy and confidentiality. Record of establishing effective working relationships with administrators, faculty, staff, students, parents, and external constituents. Excellent interpersonal communication skills and strong human relations skills. Strong administration skills, time-management, ability to meet deadlines and documentation requirements. Willingness to serve on university committees aimed at prevention of mental health issues.
Preferred Qualifications - Student crisis intervention experience Working knowledge of mental health, student development, Behavior Intervention Team (BIT) best practices, higher education law,FERPA, and electronic record-keeping systems. Supervision experience Trained in Mental Health First Aid,QPR, orASSISTLicensed or eligible to be licensed to practice in the State of Michigan (social work, counseling, etc.) Knowledge of case management system software (e.g. Advocate) Experience with marketing and coordination of campus events and messaging.
Duties & Responsibilities - Oversees the daily operations of case management support for students living in university housing, supervision of Care Advocate staff providing case management support and coordinating response path process with residence life staff. Manages referrals of distressed students from administration, faculty, staff and other members of the university community and provides feedback to referral agents. Assists students with identifying and connecting to campus and community resources including, but not limited to, counseling and mental health, basic needs, medical care, academic supports, and daily living needs. Provides assessment (triage) for students in crisis or needing support, including appropriate referrals to university or community mental health services. Coordinates with appropriate campus partners regarding interdisciplinary intervention efforts to expedite the resolution of problems. Consults and coordinates support for students with parents and supporters Develops and facilitates training efforts for residence life staff and campus partners. Maintains timely and accurate documentation utilizing case management software. Participate in development, planning, and implementation of prevention programs related to personal well-being, substance use, eating concerns, and mental health. Maintains knowledge of promising practices and works collaboratively withCmu CaresDirector to assist in the ongoing development of the Care effort. Participates in assessment efforts related toCmu Careseffectiveness Serves as a member of the universityCARETeamOther duties as assigned.
