As the Quality Assurance Lab Technician reporting to the Quality Assurance Supervisor, you will be responsible for the inspection and micro testing of all incoming, intermediate ingredients and finished product produced in a shift, in a six day per week operation to meet company service, quality cost, safety, and people objectives in an AOAC accredited laboratory. Here's more of what you'll get to do: Responsible for the inspection and testing of all incoming and intermediate ingredients and finished product to meet company service, quality, cost, safety and people objectives. Inspects/Evaluates all incoming ingredients following the inspection protocol. Reports the complete details when faced with quality issues with the delivery/shipment of ingredients. Advises the QA Supervisor and/or QA Manager of the issues in a timely manner. Inspects/Calibrates all equipment used in the lab (scales, autoclave, thermometers, refractometers, refrigerators, incubators etc.). Reports non-compliance findings and recommends next steps to the QA Supervisor and/or QA Manager in a timely manner. Monitors the temperatures of all coolers and freezers present in the facility on a daily basis. Performs environmental tests to determine efficacy of sanitation methods (Unilite and environmental samples). Generates reports regularly in a timely manner for the information of the concerned departments. Works on other duties that may be assigned by the QA Supervisor or QA Manager. Maintains the cleanliness of the test equipment, utensils, and laboratory in accordance with standard food laboratory techniques, methods and requirements. Maintains the cleanliness of the laboratory refrigerator and ensures there is no storage of non-micro related items. Coordinates the cleaning and sanitation of the floor with the Sanitation Supervisor. Test samples of incoming ingredients for micro, physical and chemical attributes. Tests work-in-process samples for physical attributes like consistency, density, pH, solids, moisture percentage, and temperature. Enters data on computer and generates reports as required. Performs inventory of laboratory supplies. Orders laboratory supplies as needed. Enters data and information on samples in computer accurately. Ensures product description, lot numbers, job codes and other pertinent information are correct. Comments on the item as needed. Places items (ingredients or finished products) that do not meet specification on hold. What we require: 2 years' previous laboratory experience. Knowledge of basic micro techniques (aseptic sampling, dilutions, plating). Good Communication skills and ability to read, write and speak English. Ability to stand for long periods of time, bend, reach and twist; coupled with working in a confined and or closed area. General Computer Skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Access). Must be able to work Saturdays and Sundays as needed. Be able to lift and carry 50 lbs. What we prefer: Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Microbiology or related science.
