What We're Looking For The engineers who do well in this role tend to be self‑directed — they come to debug sessions with hypotheses and next steps rather than waiting for direction, and they follow a problem all the way through root cause and into the corrected hardware instead of handing it off. They build the automation, write the runbook, and raise the reporting standard on their own initiative, and they stay with the ambiguous, multi‑layer failures that others walk away from, often reproducing issues another bench couldn't. They document their work so the next person doesn't start from scratch, manage several programs at once, and keep moving when one path is blocked.
