Position: Safety Specialist Location: Myrtle Beach, SC Salary: $55,000-$75,000 Position Summary The Safety Specialist supports the Safety Manager in maintaining a safe, compliant, and productive work environment across underground utility construction projects. This role assists with field safety inspections, employee training, incident investigations, and regulatory compliance while promoting a strong safety culture throughout the organization. Key Responsibilities Field Safety
Conduct routine jobsite inspections and safety observations.
Identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.
Assist with Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), pre-task plans, and toolbox talks.
Monitor compliance with OSHA standards and company safety policies.
Support Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and other safety programs.
Training & Development
Conduct new hire orientations and safety training.
Reinforce PPE, trenching and excavation, confined space, and equipment safety requirements.
Maintain training records and compliance documentation.
Incident Management
Assist with incident, injury, and near-miss investigations.
Gather photos, statements, and documentation.
Track corrective actions to ensure timely resolution.
Compliance & Reporting
Maintain OSHA and company-required safety records.
Assist with safety audits and inspections.
Support preparation of safety reports and metrics.
Ensure required permits, signage, and postings are displayed on job sites.
Safety Culture
Promote safe work practices and employee engagement.
Encourage reporting of hazards and safety concerns.
Serve as a visible advocate for the company’s safety-first culture.
Qualifications Education
Associate degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, or related field preferred, or equivalent experience.
Experience
1–3 years of construction safety experience, preferably in underground utilities or heavy civil construction.
Working knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1926 standards.
Skills
Strong communication and organizational skills.
Detail-oriented with the ability to document findings accurately.
Proficient in Microsoft Office.
Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record required.
Certifications Required: OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Certification Preferred: First Aid/CPR Certification Physical Requirements
Ability to walk, stand, climb, and work on active construction sites for extended periods.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Work Environment
Primarily field-based with travel between regional job sites.
Occasional office work for reporting, documentation, and meetings.
